Ottawa Innercity Ministries Ottawa Innercity Ministries (OIM) is an interdenominational Christian charitable organization serving the poor and homeless in downtown Ottawa.

For over 30 years OIM staff and front-line volunteers make sure our hungry, hurting, and isolated street friends receive not only food and clothing, but companionship and care without judgement. In 2022 OIM made 25,000 street friend connections, providing emergency relief for adults, veterans, and youth. OIM programs include:

Street Outreach – Our core program where Volunteer teams are meeting up

to 170 people per day, up from 60 in 2021

Door Outreach - Volunteer teams serve 70+ friends each Tues & Thurs, up from 20 in 2021

Innercity Veterans Outreach & Support (IVOS) - Volunteers lessened the isolation of 133+ Veterans, personally supporting them at weekly Drop Ins, monthly Movie Nights, in just over 2 years. Innercity Arts - Volunteers nurture a safe & supportive environment for youth ages 16-32, to engage in the visual and musical Arts Community

It’s easy for fear and misunderstandings to create barriers between people, especially when it comes to homelessness. A harmful assumption is that street friends are a threat to public safety, when the heartbreaking reality is that they are the ones most in danger. 💙

Without a safe place to stay, people experiencing homelessness are far more likely to experience violence, theft, and assault 💔 That's why OIM works alongside our street friends, offering compassionate support. 😊 Share this post to help bust this myth!

A common misconception is that homelessness is only an issue in urban areas. In reality, people experience homelessness in both cities and rural communities ❤️

Homelessness is often more visible in larger cities, but it also affects people in small towns where it can be easier to overlook. Recognizing this helps us better understand the need for support in every community.
