The Season of Service continues!

Synopsys Canada employees joined Ontario Streams at Toogood Pond Park in Markham yesterday for a hands-on environmental restoration project!

Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help manage invasive European buckthorn, supporting efforts to protect native plants, restore local ecosystems, and preserve biodiversity. 🌱

This was a meaningful morning of environmental stewardship and giving back to the community!

Thank you to Ontario Streams, Synopsys, and Points of Light for helping make this volunteer experience possible.

What helps make volunteer engagement meaningful? Building strong relationships and sharing impactful stories! ✨

🎉 Now FREE to attend! In celebration of International Volunteer Manager Day, join us in partnership with Volunteer Alberta on November 5 for this webinar! Register for free or choose a Pay-What-You-Can option to support future VA learning opportunities and webinars like this one.

Volunteer coordinators come from all kinds of paths, some with formal training and some learning as they go. VA’s own Erin Navarro, CVA, has been there herself, and after six years in the field, she’s sharing the two things that matter most for meaningful volunteer engagement: relationship-building and storytelling.

Relationships are at the centre of every thriving volunteer program. When you take the time to know your volunteers as whole people, with their own dreams, motivations, and challenges, you create trust and a sense of belonging. Storytelling is what turns that trust into lasting engagement. Volunteers want to feel part of something meaningful, and your job is to show them how their work connects to the bigger picture. Coordinators who tell that story well can turn casual helpers into lifelong champions.

You’ll leave this session with new tools and encouragement to feel empowered to welcome and engage volunteers in your organization. This session is presented with support from the Government of Alberta.

📅 Date: November 5, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. MDT

• Tickets: FREE | Pay What You Can (optional)
• Attendee Giveaway: Join us for the full session and enter for a chance to win a $200 Co-op gift card or one of two $100 Co-op gift cards!

Yesterday, Volunteer Canada brought together corporate community engagement leaders from across industries in Toronto for our Good Company Leadership Lab, hosted by Deloitte.

We had an honest conversation about the opportunities and challenges facing employee volunteering, from workplace culture and barriers to participation to building stronger partnerships with nonprofits and creating programs that have lasting impact.

One thing was clear: there's tremendous knowledge and experience in this community, and real value in bringing it together.

As we advance the National Volunteer Action Strategy, conversations like these are essential. We need to keep sharing what's working, asking difficult questions, and finding practical ways to make volunteering more accessible, meaningful, and sustainable.

A huge thank you to everyone who showed up ready to share, listen, and learn from one another. Special thanks to Deloitte for hosting us and Sarah Saso from Meridian Credit Union for helping bring this group together.

Important work lies ahead and we're excited to keep the conversation going across Canada.

If there's one thing most Volunteer Coordinators have in common, it's that very few planned to end up in volunteer engagement. Many of us might have felt like we were thrown into the deep end, spending our first few months wishing someone had handed us a metaphorical floatie while we figured out the role.

In celebration of International Volunteer Manager Day on November 5, and in partnership with Volunteer Alberta, this session was created to help you feel more confident in your role and a little less like you're treading water. Whether you are new to volunteer engagement or have been doing this for years, we will share fresh insight into what matters most for meaningful volunteer engagement: relationship-building and storytelling.

📅 Date: November 5, 2026, 1:30 PM MDT

• Tickets: $20 members / $30 non-members (We believe cost should never get in the way of the support you need. Contact Volunteer Alberta anytime to talk through pricing options that work for you.)

• Attendee Giveaway: Join us for the full session and enter for a chance to win a $200 Co-op gift card, or one of two $100 Co-op gift cards!

They’re back! Synopsys Canada employees returned to YMCA Camp Otonabee in Ottawa this Season of Service, for another year of site maintenance and improvement projects.

These hands-on efforts helped maintain the safety, accessibility, and overall condition of this cherished community space. YMCA Camp Otonabee provides local youth and families with opportunities for connection, learning, and personal growth in a natural setting.

Today, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day calls us to reflect on the truths of residential schools, the intergenerational impacts of colonialism, and the responsibility we all share in advancing reconciliation.

We recognize the colonial constructs present in narratives around volunteerism and are working to shift these narratives to reflect diverse models of community participation in an effort to actively move towards reconciliation.

At Volunteer Canada, we are committed to ensuring that volunteerism reflects and respects all forms of community participation. Guided by the principles of Justice, Accessibility, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (JAIDE), we will continue to listen, learn, and stand in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples as we champion, support, and celebrate volunteerism.

Today, and every day, we encourage individuals and organizations to take time to listen, learn, and consider the actions they can take in support of truth and reconciliation.
