Tomorrow, 11 June 2026, Bafana Bafana begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup experience against Mexico in the tournament’s opening match at Estadio Azteca. Kick-off is scheduled for 21:00 (South African time).

This is a historic occasion, as it comes exactly 16 years to the day since South Africa faced Mexico in the opening match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was hosted on home soil at Soccer City (FNB Stadium) in Johannesburg.

The 2010 encounter ended in a memorable 1–1 draw and remains one of the most iconic moments in South African football history. Sixteen years later, Bafana Bafana once again opens a FIFA World Cup campaign against Mexico, adding a remarkable sense of symmetry and significance to the occasion.

Let’s go Bafana!

TOGETHER WE CAN MANAGE MIGRATION AND STAY TRUE TO OUR SHARED HUMANITY

08 JUNE 2026

In recent months, many South Africans have raised concern about illegal immigration, asking whether our borders are secure and our laws are being enforced. It is in this context that I addressed the nation last night on the actions government is taking to manage migration in the country and specifically to address the challenge of illegal immigration. In reality, when one looks at the statistics, foreign nationals account for a very small proportion of users of these public services. Nevertheless, there is a perception among some people that our public services are being overwhelmed.
