The Barbados (Ottawa) Association Inc. (BOA) founded on November 30, 1966, the historic night Barbados attained its independence has proudly served the Ottawa National Capital Region for nearly 60 years. The BOA is a non-profit organization, a cornerstone of cultural preservation and community fellowship. Throughout our history, we have remained committed to strengthening our community, supporting charitable causes, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Barbados, and being the oldest Barbadian association in Canada. The BOA continuously contributes to the social fabric of Ottawa. Our deep history of community care spans a wide network of charitable support across both Canada and Barbados.
Our contributions over the years have supported organizations such as:
Healthcare & Support Foundations: CHEO, The Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Sickle Cell Parents Support Group, and the Hope for Lupus Foundation.
Youth, Sport & Literacy: Camp Sunflower, the Mavericks Soccer Club, and the Barbados Public Library.
Local Community Relief: Raising funds for the United Way, delivering holiday food hamper baskets to those in need, and supporting local food shelters through the Parkdale United Church. We are also proud to host the vibrant Barbados Cheer Station during the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend.
