Veterans Ombud Commendation

I recently had the privilege of presenting Master Corporal (Ret'd) Terry Grabowski with a Veterans Ombud Commendation at the Veterans Association Food Bank in Edmonton in recognition of his outstanding service to the Veteran community.

After serving Canada in the Canadian Armed Forces, including a deployment to Kosovo, Terry has continued serving Veterans through tireless volunteer work and advocacy. Whether helping Veterans receive the medals and recognition they deserve, connecting them with health care and community supports, or strengthening Legion branches through his leadership, Terry has made a lasting difference in the lives of countless Veterans and their families.

Something that stands out about Terry is his dedication to Second World War Veteran Joseph Novak. Through his persistence, Mr. Novak received replacement medals and France's Legion d'honneur - ensuring his service was properly recognized decades later. That commitment to doing right by Veterans reflects the kind of person Terry is.

Congratulations, Terry, on this well-deserved honour. It was a privilege to recognize your exceptional contributions.

Veterans Ombud Commendation

I recently had the privilege of presenting Warrant Officer (Ret’d) Mario Fortin with a Commendation Award in recognition of his outstanding service to the Veteran Community.

As President of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 173 (Montréal-Est) since 2018, Mario has shown exceptional leadership and compassion. Through his dedication, he has helped transform the branch into a more welcoming and vibrant space – bringing people together, growing membership, and creating a strong sense of belonging among fellow Veterans and their families.

Hearing how Mario’s support has helped others – especially those facing isolation – speaks to the real and lasting impact he is making. It’s this kind of commitment that strengthens our Veteran community and makes such a difference in people’s lives.

Congratulations, Mario, on this well-deserved honour. It was truly a pleasure to recognize your contributions.
