🇩🇰🇨🇦 Busy days of diplomacy in Canada.

This week, Danish State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Lotte Machon travelled to Ottawa and Toronto for high-level meetings and to take part in the Pathways to Peace conference, co-hosted by Canada, Ukraine and Norway.

In Ottawa, she met with Jennifer May, Foreign and Defence Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada. In Toronto, she held bilateral consultations on the margins of the conference with David Angell, Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Alexandre Lévêque, Assistant Deputy Minister for Europe, Arctic and the Middle East.

The talks focused on concrete ways to strengthen cooperation between the Kingdom of Denmark and Canada, as well as continued support for Ukraine, NATO and EU-Canada relations.

The conference, led by Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand, brought together more than 80 countries with a shared goal: rallying international action to bring home Ukrainian children, detained civilians and prisoners of war held by Russia, and to support their rehabilitation and reintegration once they return.

The State Secretary is visiting Canada this week for important bilateral meetings with Canadian counterparts and to participate in the Pathways to Peace Conference in Toronto, which is co-hosted by Canada, Ukraine, and Norway. The conference is working to strengthen international support for bringing home Ukrainian children, detained civilians, and prisoners of war held by Russia.

At the Embassy, the State Secretary got to meet team DK in Canada across Ottawa and Toronto for a talk on current priorities in Copenhagen and the importance of the partnerships with countries like Canada.

Last week our colleagues attended North America’s biggest AI conference ALL IN in Montréal. AI safety was the main focus. At the conference Canada and Germany announced a CAD 300 million investment in Yoshua Benito’s Law to develop safer AI.

🇩🇰🇮🇸🇳🇴🇸🇪🇫🇮The Nordic ambassadors wrapped up a successful visit to Newfoundland and Labrador yesterday with a series of high-level meetings and a stop at Memorial University.

At the Confederation Building, they met with Premier the Honourable Tony Wakeham to discuss opportunities for deeper trade relations in fisheries, energy, critical minerals, defence, and research and tech innovation.
A meeting with the Honourable Lloyd Parrott, Minister of Energy and Mines, focused on the province's onshore and offshore wind potential and the opportunities this presents for Danish companies looking to support the province's energy development.

The ambassadors also met with the Honourable Lin Paddock, Minister of Job, Growth and Rural Development, to discuss how connectivity drives rural growth and to compare approaches to sustaining rural communities and job creation for the province's skilled workforce.

Yesterday, the Nordic ambassadors visited L'Anse aux Meadows where Norse seafarers landed over 1000 years ago.

The curiosity of the Vikings led them to this beautiful Canadian landscape, and that curiosity lives on as people in the Nordic countries travel the world for tourism and business.

Denmark is still a seafaring nation with some of its largest companies spending their time on the oceans. If a country has a port Denmark would like to go there, and Canada has many! Although the approach is more civilized today than it was 1000 years ago.

"It was so exciting to visit the site where the Vikings lived 1000 years ago and to learn why they came and how they lived," said Ambassador Harris.
