As Orwell observed in 1984, we are today memory-holing history we should be proud of. We should reject those liars who would falsify our great history.
Upper Canada, which became Ontario, was the first jurisdiction in the Commonwealth to ban the import of salves. (1793) and in the entire history of the settlement of this great land by Europeans (the 200 years before the banning of slavery), only four thousand African chattel slaves were held in Canada. (Compare to millions in the US, Jamaica, and South America).
