IT HAS BEEN QUITE A MONTH FOR GREEK SPORT!
Between Birmingham, Eugene, Rieti and Varese, Greek athletes kept bringing home medals in athletics and rowing, and we could not let it pass without saying congratulations!
ATHLETICS
Miltiadis Tentoglou won gold in the long jump at the European Championships in Birmingham, yesterday, with a jump of 8.44m, his 4th European title in a row. Just a month earlier he also topped the podium at the Monaco Diamond League with a world-leading 8.61m.
3 young athletes had a breakout month at the U20 and U18 level. Eleni Iakovaki won U18 gold in the 400m in Rieti with a national record of 52.38s, then backed it up with bronze in the 400m hurdles at the World U20 Championships in Eugene. Apostolia Antonatou took silver in the 100m in Rieti, the first Greek medal ever in that event at the U18 Euros. And Evelyn Mitropoulou and Iouliana Roussou both won silver in Eugene, in the long jump and 800m.
Elina Tzengko added a bronze in the javelin in Monaco.
ROWING
Greece also had a strong showing at the European Rowing Championships in Varese. Petros Gaidatzis won gold in the lightweight single sculls, with Stefanos Ntouskos and Gabriela Lioliou both taking bronze.
CONGRATULATIONS to all of them. It is genuinely exciting to see this next generation coming up alongside our established stars. Wishing all the best to everyone still competing this month.
