🕯️ 21. august 1968 – Spomíname. 🕊️🇸🇰🇨🇿
Dnes si pripomíname obete invázie vojsk Varšavskej zmluvy do Československa a následnej okupácie.

August 21, 1968 – We remember. 🕯️
Today, we remember the victims of the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia and the decades of occupation that followed. 🕯️
🇨🇿🇸🇰 On the night of August 20–21, 1968, Warsaw Pact forces invaded Czechoslovakia. The Soviet-led invasion brought an end to hopes for “socialism with a human face” — the reformist vision championed by Alexander Dubček.
🕊️ The events of August 21, 1968, tragically changed the lives of countless people and left a lasting mark on our collective memory. Many were forced to leave their homeland, with some finding a new home in Canada. 🇨🇦
In Ottawa, together with colleagues from Central and Eastern European embassies, we also joined the Black Ribbon Day commemoration at Saint Paul University, honoring the victims of N**i and Communist regimes. This day (August 23) is known in the EU as the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of N**ism and Communism.
Remembering the past is essential to protecting freedom and democracy for future generations. 🕊️
