Prime Minister Carney concluded a successful bilateral visit to Ireland, where he worked to elevate our nations’ bilateral relationship with stronger cooperation across the science, technology, and culture sectors.

In Westport Ireland, Prime Minister Carney, met with the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly.

The leaders reflected on the strong kinship between Canada and Ireland, emphasised the growing bilateral cooperation, and our shared commitment to multilateralism.

Building on the two countries’ shared heritage, the Prime Minister and the President looked forward to the launch of Canada-Ireland 180 next year, marking 180 years since over 100,000 Irish emigrated to Canada during the famine.

Underscoring the deep and enduring Canada-Ireland relationship, the leaders announced deeper bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including AI, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, and food security and resilience.

The Prime Minister and the Taoiseach reaffirmed their support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and emphasised the imperative of de-escalation in the Middle East.
