Approximately 2 years ago I started volunteering at Day Away in Meaford. For 2 years each Wednesday morning I enjoy being with the clients and staff at Day Away. The clients are amazing people very friendly, very thankful and very happy to be in this program. The staff are full of energy, very caring and always the program is packed full of activities suited or modified for each individual. I appreciate the staff as they are very considerate and understanding if I am not able to be at my volunteer job due to holidays, personal scheduling etc.
I often tell my family and friends, the day of the week that I volunteer at Day Away is one of my most enjoyable days of my week, helping with the clients and the staff.
If you are considering volunteering, I highly recommend the HCSS Day Away Program. Day Away programs are offered in many communities surrounding Owen Sound, I have heard through networking with clients and staff that all the Day Away programs are excellent and highly recommended by all.
Meals on Wheels is another program at HCSS. My route of meals to deliver takes less than 1 hour on my assigned day, over the lunch hour. The smiles I receive from the client each time I take a meal in to them is priceless. They are eagerly awaiting their meal and most often a short visit occurs, which I enjoy with them. Meals on Wheels is a valuable service in our community. This statement is so true.
When one volunteers their time.....you personally receive back more than you give.
