NEWS: The County of Grey is inviting community members to visit one of its three long-term care homes on Friday, September 18 as part of Long-Term Care Community Engagement Day, a province-wide initiative celebrating the important role long-term care plays in supporting residents, families and communities. Rockwood Terrace in Durham, Lee Manor in Owen Sound, and Grey Gables in Markdale are each participating with unique plans for the day.

will welcome families, friends, community partners, volunteers, and the public to drop in, explore displays, meet LTC team members and volunteers, learn about long-term care programs and services, and discover what county-operated long-term care looks like in Grey County.

Long-Term Care Community Engagement Day ( ) shines a spotlight on the essential role long-term care homes play in supporting families and communities. The day is an opportunity to increase public understanding of long-term care, celebrate the people who live, work and volunteer in homes, and welcome visitors to see firsthand how long-term care supports quality of life, connection and belonging for residents.

“Grey County is proud to participate in Engagement Day and offer the community a glimpse into the many ways we ‘Colour It’ for our residents every day,” said Grey County Director of Long-Term Care and Senior Services, Jennifer Cornell. “Long-term care is about far more than healthcare. It’s about creating homes where residents continue living with purpose, dignity, connection and joy. Our teams strive to provide emotion-first, person-centred care that respects each resident’s individuality, preferences and life story.”

To protect the wellbeing of residents and team members, Grey County asks anyone feeling unwell or recovering from an illness not to visit the homes. Visitor screening will be in effect.

Thank you to Minister Nolan Quinn and the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security for meeting with our delegation to discuss the vital role of rural campuses like Georgian College in Owen Sound.

Georgian College's Owen Sound campus provides essential infrastructure and training for priority sectors in our community, including healthcare, skilled trades, marine industries, clean energy, health and human services, early childhood education, and apprenticeship training.

We believe the Owen Sound campus is a strategic provincial asset that supports economic growth, workforce development, supply chain resilience, and Ontario's clean energy future.

The County of Grey is proudly representing our communities at the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario - AMO Conference in Ottawa, where municipalities from across Ontario come together to advocate for local priorities and build partnerships.

Yesterday's schedule included several conference sessions and a panel on reliable energy featuring Commander Col. Chris Hadfield. The discussion highlighted the importance of emergency preparedness, workforce training, and maintaining stable energy supplies during extreme weather and other emergencies.

Today, Grey County is meeting directly with provincial leaders to advocate for issues that matter to local residents:

✅ Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security - Supporting sustainable funding for rural-serving campuses, including Georgian College's Owen Sound Campus.

✅ Ontario Ministry of Education - Advocating for additional CWELCC-funded child care spaces to improve access to licensed child care for families across our region.

We look forward to continuing these important conversations on behalf of Grey County communities.
