⚠️ FIRE BAN UPDATE ⚠️

The fire ban for the RM will be OFFICIALLY LIFTED as of 12:00 PM (noon) today.

With the drop in temperatures, increase in humidity and increase of green material, the risk of fire has decreased.

Thank you to all residents for your patience and cooperation over the last while. While the restrictions are being removed, we ask everyone to please remain highly cautious. Conditions can change quickly, so please ensure you check the wind forecast, have a water source nearby, and never leave a fire unattended.

πŸ“ž Reminder for Controlled Burns: Before you light any brush piles or large acreage burns, please remember to report your burn to the provincial line at 1-866-404-4911. This prevents our local volunteer fire departments from being dispatched out unnecessarily.

Stay safe, everyone!

πŸ“‹ Property Assessment Reinspections Now Underway
Notice to all residents of the Rural Municipality:

Representatives from the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) have started conducting scheduled physical reinspections of properties within our RM and are currently active in the area.

πŸ” What to Expect:
Identification: SAMA field tech representatives carry official photo identification and drive marked vehicles.

The Process: Inspectors are reviewing property details, taking exterior measurements, and updating photos to ensure accurate property listings.

Property Access: They may knock on your door to ask brief questions or request a closer look at property improvements.

πŸ’‘ Why is this happening?
SAMA conducts periodic reinspections to ensure that municipal property assessment records are up-to-date and accurately reflect the current characteristics of all buildings and land across the region.

❓ Questions?
If you see inspectors in your neighborhood and have any questions, or if you want to verify the identity of an inspector in your area, please contact the RM Office at 306-989-2124 or reach out directly to SAMA.

🌊 Spring Moisture & Flooding Support Information for Producers 🌾

With recent spring flooding and excess moisture impacting fields across Saskatchewan, here is a quick summary of the support options, insurance features, and deadlines available to help you navigate this season:

πŸ“‹ Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC) Options

Delayed Seeding: Excess moisture and flooding are insurable causes of loss. The final deadline to seed most crops and receive insurance coverage is June 20.

Unseeded Acreage Feature: Included with multi-peril Crop Insurance, this provides coverage for land that is too wet to seed. Please note that claims will not be accepted after **June 25**.

Establishment Benefit: If your crops fail to establish or suffer a loss prior to June 20 due to flooding or other insurable causes, you can register a claim.

Important: Contact SCIC immediately if you plan to reseed or work down a portion of an insured crop, as an adjuster must inspect the acres first.

AgriStability: This program uses margins to offset the impacts of flooding. It factors in grain/feed inventory losses , livestock losses , and lost production from land that was too wet to seed or flooded after seeding.

πŸ“’ RM Infrastructure & PDAP Update:

We’ve heard some questions around the community regarding why the RM is using private contractors rather than our own municipal crews and equipment to repair recent storm and flood damage. We want to pull back the curtain and explain exactly how the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) worksβ€”and why our current approach is actually saving the RM significant time and money.

Here is the breakdown of why we are utilizing contractors for these specific repairs:

πŸ”Ή Stringent Funding Rules: PDAP funding comes with very strict, non-negotiable guidelines. To ensure the RM qualifies for disaster assistance and doesn't get stuck with the entire bill, we must follow their rules to the letter.

πŸ”Ή The Cost of Materials: If the RM uses its own clay and gravel, PDAP will only reimburse us for our base production costs, not the market value. Replacing those materials later would cost the RM significantly more than what we'd be reimbursed for. However, PDAP will cover full contractor rates for materials. By using contractors, we protect our own material stockpiles and funding.

πŸ”Ή Staffing & Regular Maintenance: PDAP only covers extraordinary or overtime hours for RM staff. If we pulled our regular operators off their daily duties to handle massive disaster repairs, our routine road maintenance, grading, and culvert clearing would completely grind to a halt.

πŸ”Ή Speed of Recovery: Trying to squeeze major disaster repairs into our crew's regular daily schedule would stretch the timeline out significantly. Using dedicated contractors gets our roads open and safe much faster.

Unfortunately not all of the washed out culverts are salvageable and are not all in stock so some repairs may take longer than anticipated due to these reasons.

Supporting Local 🚜

We also want to reassure residents that we are keeping it local: all of the contractors being used for these PDAP repairs are local contractors who own property right here in the RM of Paddockwood and provide employment for some of our residents.

We know the provincial disaster process isn't always common knowledge, so we wanted to share how these decisions are made. Our goal isβ€”and always will beβ€”getting our infrastructure back in shape as quickly, safely, and fiscally responsibly as possible.

Thank you for your patience and continued support as we work through these repairs!

⚠️ EMERGENCY ROAD REPAIRS UPDATE ⚠️

The RM of Paddockwood wishes to advise residents that emergency road repairs are currently underway across the municipality.

Our Staff, Council, and contracted partners are working hard to manage the road damage, and we truly appreciate everyone's patience. Please see the critical updates below:

Traffic Flow & Temporary Fixes: Some current repairs are temporary measures to safely restore traffic flow. Council and staff are scheduling permanent fixes as the summer progresses and materials (like culverts) become available. So if these sites do not seem "finished" they are not permanent fixes.

Extended Timelines: Due to the large scale of damage in certain areas and supply timelines, some repair sites will take longer to fully complete.

Major Washouts: Emergency repairs at our two largest washout sites are not feasible right now. Materials are on order, and we are working closely with provincial agencies on the best path forward. We expect a formal update on these two sites within the next two weeks.

Contractor Safety & Respect: We are utilizing external contractors to expedite this work. We kindly ask that the public treats all operators and crews with patience and courtesy while they work to get our infrastructure back up and running. They want to see everything back to normal as much as everyone else.

Future Disruptions: As permanent repair work begins, we will post ongoing updates regarding specific traffic disruptions.

🚜 REPORTING NEW WASHOUTS
As producers head into the fields for seeding, new washouts may be discovered that are not yet on our radar. If you find a damaged area, please notify the RM office immediately so we can log it and address it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate these infrastructure challenges. We are certainly glad to see some warmer weather in the forecast to help with the recovery efforts! β˜€οΈ
