Please yield to the right for green flashing lights as they approach. Our crews operate green flashing light when responding to the fire station, this helps with a timely response. 🚒🟢

🚨 Emergency Vehicles & Flashing Green Lights – Know What to Do! 🚨
We’ve received concerns from residents about drivers not properly yielding to emergency vehicles—especially at busy intersections like Hwy. 89 & Industrial Parkway.
Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Emergency Vehicles (Police, Fire Trucks, Ambulances)
When you see flashing red or blue lights or hear sirens:
• Slow down
• Signal
• Pull over to the right and stop
• Wait until the vehicle has passed before merging back into traffic

🚦 Flashing Green Lights = Volunteer Firefighters Responding to Emergencies
In Ontario, volunteer firefighters may use flashing green lights on their personal vehicles when responding to emergencies.
While not legally required, yielding to these vehicles is a courtesy that can save lives. Every second counts in an emergency.

👀 What to Look For:
• Green strobe or dome lights in the windshield or on the roof
• No sirens – just the light and possibly a horn honk

This evening, we celebrated the retirement of Captain Stuart Howes from Central Frontenac Fire & Rescue with a steak and chicken dinner. This gathering was a small token of our immense gratitude for the significant impact Stu has had on our fire service organization.

We acknowledge Captain Howes' astonishing 41 years of dedicated service. He began his career with the Hinchinbrooke Township Volunteer Fire Department in his high school years and remained a steadfast leader throughout various government structure transitions and numerous department changes.

Captain Howes' leadership and unique training approach in fire pumps, knots, and rescue operations will undoubtedly influence firefighters for many decades.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Stuart and his family for the many years of devoted service. Congratulations, and we wish you a joyful retirement!

All the best,

Central Frontenac District. 4 Firefighters Association.

Very important reminder why we should check our smoke alarms regularly. This family was saved by the beep this morning by having proper working smoke alarms.

This morning at approximately 7 a.m. firefighters from Verona, Hartington, and Sydenham responded to a reported house fire in the 7000 block of Road 38. On arrival firefighters observed heavy smoke and fire from the basement area of the home. Firefighters made a fast interior fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control containing the fire to the room of origin. Occupants of the residence were alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms. The photo shows the smoke alarm melted from the fires heat after warning the occupants including one who was sleeping and another who was in the shower when the fire occurred. The third occupant was transport to KGH by Frontenac Paramedics with smoke inhalation. Three souls and several pets were saved this morning by working smoke alarms. Please take time this weekend to ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are functioning properly and not expired. Damaged is estimated at $150,000 and three residents will be displaced. The fire remains under investigation however is not considered suspicious in nature.

We'd also like to take the opportunity to thank South Frontenac Council for their support in replacing the Verona pumper a few weeks ago when the previous truck failed. The new truck was instrumental in saving a home, outbuilding and a neighbouring home today. South Frontenac Township Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General
