With peak season in full swing, campfires and BBQs are everywhere. But one unattended flame can spread fast in dry conditions.

Don’t leave it till it’s out:
✔ Pour water on it
✔ Stir it up to ensure no hidden embers
✔ Make sure it’s completely cool

Because the only thing that should be spreading this summer is good vibes.

🚨 MYTH vs. FACT: Where should your carbon monoxide alarm go?

Plug-in or ceiling-mounted? 🤔

🏠 FACT: Both types can detect carbon monoxide. Wherever you install your CO alarm, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper installation.

What matters most isn’t whether your alarm is on the ceiling or plugged into an outlet—it’s making sure you have the required alarms in the right locations.

In Ontario, as of January 1, 2026, CO alarms are required on every storey of a home and outside all sleeping areas if the home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage—including storeys without bedrooms.

Does your home have one on every storey? 👀

Yesterday afternoon, Middlesex OPP officers challenged the North Middlesex Firefighters to a charity slow pitch game with all proceeds going to the Ailsa Craig Legion. As per tradition, firefighters from both of our stations made a grand entrance in the Ailsa Craig & District Firefighters Association 1953 Bickle-Seagrave fire engine. Mayor Ropp threw out the first pitch. In front of a large crowd of fans cheering on both teams. The game was officiated by umpire Blair Harvey. A neutral party who is the District Chief at the Ilderton Fire Station and a Superintendent with the London Police Service. The game was competitive for the first few innings but eventually the police pulled ahead with a "narrow" victory. However, the real winner yesterday was the Ailsa Craig Legion. Thanks to all who donated raffle prizes, made donations to the food bank, and came out to support the event. Thanks also to Middlesex OPP and North Middlesex Firefighters for their participation in the games!

Late summer heat can turn dry lawns, mulch, and yard debris into quick-burning fuel and even small sparks can cause major problems. Carelessly tossed smoking materials are still one of the top causes of preventable outdoor fires.

Before you walk away, take a second to do it right:
✔ Fully put it out (no smoke, no heat!)
✔ Use a proper ashtray
✔ Keep cigarette butts out of gardens, planters, and landscaping

Let’s keep things glowing for the right reasons - sunshine, not fires.

Scottish Pride Runs Deep in "The Craig"! 🏴
What an incredible day! The Highland Games took place this past Saturday right here in Ailsa Craig, bringing our community together to celebrate rich traditions, athletic feats, and vibrant Scottish culture.
A massive thank you to everyone who came out to compete, spectate, and support the games. From the powerful heavy events to the sights and sounds that filled the air, it was a day to remember.
We also want to give a special shout-out to our incredible local first responders who kept everyone safe and engaged throughout the festivities! Pictured here are the Middlesex-London Paramedic bike team alongside the North Middlesex fire department: Paramedic Scott, Public Educator Karyna Doxtator, Firefighter Lucy Petrie, Firefighter Shawn Willows, and Paramedic Julie. Important! Please check the certifications of your smoke/CO alarms. Thank you Woodstock Fire Department for alerting us to this!

Yesterday we posted about the importance of checking the certifications of your smoke/CO alarms. Shortly after we had a resident arrive at the firehall to check the validity of these CO alarms that were purchased online! Not only are these on a Health Canada recall list BUT they do NOT have either the CSA or UL-C testing mark that certify that they are tested to Canadian Standards. We cannot stress enough the importance of ensuring they are CSA or UL-C approved to ensure they are able to do the job they were meant to do -saving lives!

The Municipality of North Middlesex and the North Middlesex Fire Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Optimist Club of Parkhill and Joyce Hutchinson for their generous contribution toward the purchase of a new automated external defibrillator (AED) for the department.

This donation reflects a shared commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of the youth and families of North Middlesex. Having access to lifesaving equipment such as an AED helps ensure our firefighters are equipped to respond quickly and effectively when emergencies occur, helping to protect the next generation and the communities they call home.
