Sports Fields to Receive Broadleaf W**d Treatment 🪏
The sports fields at Parksville Community Park and Springwood Park will be treated for broadleaf weeds, with Springwood Park being treated on August 31, and Parksville Community Park being completed from September 8-11. Signage will be posted at the fields when treatments are taking place.

The City of Parksville is committed to providing safe, high-quality sports fields while minimizing reliance on chemical controls and supporting environmental handling. Our parks team has developed a sports field maintenance program focused on building resilient grass through several practices including fertilization, aeration, deep-tine cultivation, overseeding, topdressing, and appropriate mowing heights. These practices help strengthen turf health, improve playing conditions, and reduce the need for herbicide use.

Hope in Action - International Toxic Drug Overdose Awareness Day in Parksville - Saturday August 29 from 4:00-7:00 pm

Join MomsStopTheHarm and Oceanside Community Action Team this Saturday to honour and commemorate loved ones lost ❤️‍🩹

Visit the Parksville Community Park Picnic Shelter to hear from speakers, along with Project Connect with 15+ agencies offering resources, a candlelight vigil to the new Memorial Bench in the park, as well as food, drinks, and music.

Today is World Senior Citizen Day, a time to recognize the older adults who help make Nanaimo a caring, connected and resilient community.

To support Nanaimo's seniors, the City of Nanaimo is creating a Seniors Emergency Preparedness Information Guide. This guide will help older adults prepare for and find support during emergencies like power outages, severe weather, wildfires and evacuations.

Important reminder, campfire ban remains in effect.

Due to continued hot dry conditions, all open burning, including campfires, continues to be banned throughout most of Southern B.C.

Category 2 and 3 open fire bans also remain in effect in the Northwest Fire Centre and parts of the Coastal Fire Centre and Prince George Fire Centre.

Fire restrictions in all regions will be updated as conditions change.
