Our first winner of Pizza with the Principal this year is Merridy. Junior high students get specially stamped Pride Points for being prepared for their classes. Merridy was the lucky recipient this month. Merridy and three friends got to have pizza lunch in Mrs. Campbell's office today. Way to go, Merridy.

HFCRD Board Chair Kelly Whalen recently met with Alberta's Minister of Education and Childcare in Calgary as part of his important work as President of the Alberta Catholic School Trustees' Association.

On September 28th, our Executive was pleased to have another productive meeting in Calgary with Minister of Education Demetrios Nicolaides. We are grateful for the commitment that we all share to the flourishing of publicly-funded Catholic schools in Alberta.

This week, Ms. Lepka from Project Peace at Glenmary School had the privilege of spending time with students in their classrooms, sharing a little lesson about Orange Shirt Day, the history of residential schools, and the importance of Truth and Reconciliation.

Students then put their hearts and creativity into colouring their own orange shirts to display at the front of our school. Seeing all of their little shirts together is a beautiful reminder that every child matters, every story matters, and every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and loved.

These conversations may start with a simple lesson and a little orange shirt, but they help plant seeds of kindness, understanding, compassion, and hope in our students.

I’m so proud of our Glenmary students for learning, reflecting, and helping us remember that we all have a role to play in reconciliation.

Tomorrow, September 30th, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Our Holy Family Catholic Regional Division Administration team took time today during our monthly administration meeting to reflect and pray, honouring the children who never returned home from residential schools, the survivors, and their families and communities.

We are called by our faith to listen with open hearts, to learn the truth, and to walk humbly alongside Indigenous peoples on the path toward healing and reconciliation.

We invite our staff, students, families, and communities to take time tomorrow to pause, reflect, pray and learn. Wearing orange is one way to show support and remembrance, and we encourage everyone to continue this learning well beyond one day.
