The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) consists of four member municipalities (District of Lillooet, District of Squamish, Village of Pemberton and Resort Municipality of Whistler) and four electoral areas (A, B, C, D). Headquartered in Pemberton, which is the approximate geographic centre of the region, the SLRD delivers a wide range of local, regional and sub-regional services to approximately 38,000 residents. The region contains some of the most spectacular forests, waterways, and mountains in the province and affords an endless range of opportunities for outdoor adventure.

The reusable wood program at the Lillooet Landfill & Recycling Centre ends for the season on October 31, 2026. The program aims to divert reusable wood from the landfill and give it a second life through DIY projects across the community.

The Fire Fuel Management Program at the Gold Bridge Transfer Station is accepting material until October 12, 2026. The program will reopen in April 2027 for the Easter Long weekend.

Notification of hydrant flushing for the Pemberton North water system.

Please be advised that scheduled water system flushing will take place on:

📅 Monday, October 19, 2026
🕘 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

What to expect: Disruptions to water service are expected to be minimal.

Why do we flush the water system? Flushing helps reduce sediment buildup inside pipes, decrease bacterial growth, and improve the taste, odour, and colour of the water.

The Government of British Columbia advises that aerial forest nutrient management work in the Sea to Sky Natural Resource District could begin as early as Monday, October 19.

The project involves applying nutrients to forests to support tree growth and carbon storage. Work is likely to begin near Squamish before moving to the South Lillooet Lake area and is expected to take approximately three to four days, weather permitting. Watch for signs on roads advising of safety hazards or delays.

Still have your mail ballot package? It’s time to return it!
With General Voting Day coming up on Saturday, October 17, make sure your completed mail ballot package is received by the applicable deadline to be counted.
✅Pre-paid courier or in-person at the SLRD Office: by 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 16
✅Regular mail: by 12:30 p.m. Saturday, October 17
✅In-person at your electoral area voting place: by 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2026

If returning your package at a voting place, it must be returned to the voting place for the electoral area in which you are voting. Another person may return your completed package on your behalf.

General Voting Day voting places:

Planned pile burning north of Lillooet – Smoke may be visible

The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting Xwísten with a pile burning project approximately 13 km north of Lillooet, along Blackhills Forest Service Road.

Burning of up to 30 piles could begin as early as Thursday, October 15, depending on weather and site conditions.

The project aims to improve forest health, reduce wildfire hazards and provide training opportunities for wildfire crews.

Smoke may be visible from Pavilion, Fountain Indian Reserve, Lillooet and surrounding areas. Smoke may linger for several days following burning.

Britannia Beach and Furry Creek

Curbside collection of organics is returning to every other week (biweekly) after October 28, 2026. Only waste to landfill (garbage) will be picked up on November 4, 2026.

Organics collection returning to a biweekly schedule does not mean we should be less diligent with our organics or garbage totes.

Reducing conflicts with wildlife tips:
✅Keep garbage, recyclables, compost and other attractants secure – indoors is best.
✅Keep garbage and recycling totes clean and odour free.
✅Do not place totes out until the morning of collection.

Tips to prevent material from freezing inside totes over the winter season:
✅Line the bottom and sides with dry cardboard (remove tape).
✅Create alternating layers of newspaper/yard waste and food scraps.
✅Wrap food scraps in newspaper before placing them in the kitchen catcher.

Applications for long-term funding through the Pemberton and District Initiative Fund (PDIF) are due tomorrow, October 15, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Eligible not-for-profit organizations planning qualifying economic development, arts, culture or recreation initiatives in Village of Pemberton and SLRD Electoral Area C can apply. Funding is limited.

Electoral Area B Director Vivian Birch-Jones and Electoral Area C Director Veronica Woodruff have been elected by acclamation, so voting is not required in those Electoral Areas. School District trustee positions have also been decided by acclamation.
