Renfrew County District School Board The organizing board for 22 elementary schools and seven secondary schools situated in the north-eastern region of Ontario.

The Renfrew County District School Board serves approximately 10,000 public school students and their families in Renfrew County - the heart of the Ottawa Valley. We are bounded by the Ottawa River on the east, Algonquin Park on the west, our southern-most schools are located in Arnprior and our northern-most school is in Deep River. In addition we have adult high schools and Programs for Alternative Learning (PAL) for adolescents in four separate communities including Arnprior, Renfrew, Pembroke and Barry's Bay.

Today is Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day.

Someone teaches a child how to share, how to ask for help and how to feel safe away from home. Often, it’s an ECE or a child care worker.

To our child care partners and the RCDSB Early Childhood Educators in our schools: thank you. Your patience, expertise and care build the foundation our youngest learners need. Families trust you every day.

Tomorrow is Take Me Outside Day.

We’re challenging RCDSB educators to spend at least one hour outside with their students. Any lesson, any schoolyard.

Time outside helps children build strength, balance and hand skills. They solve problems together and learn to size up a risk. Many educators also see calmer, more focused students when they head back inside.

RCDSB kindergarten educators spent the week learning to teach outside.

Students joined them for an hour of play with mud kitchens, planks, shovels and more. The goal is simple. Help every educator feel ready to take learning outdoors.

A Huge thank you to Jill Bienenstock, Darren and Erica from ReNature Foundation for visiting five locations last week for this new beginning with a professional learning series!

Plans are underway for outdoor learning spaces at 19 schools in partnership with ReNature!

Our thoughts are with everyone affected, including those recovering from injuries.

This week is Local Government Week in Ontario. Let’s take a moment to talk about the people who sit at our board table.

RCDSB trustees are elected by the people of Renfrew County. They give up weekdays, evenings and weekends to read reports, attend meetings and visit schools. They take calls from community members and parents who have questions about their local school. Most of that work never makes the news.

Thank you to our trustees for the time and care they give to our communities.

Last night, the Project SEARCH Pembroke community had a blast at the Inclusion Ambassadors’ SINGO BINGO fundraiser, alongside our partners at Community Living Upper Ottawa Valley.

Staff, parents, family and interns all came out for the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our night with the community, and we brought home a win for the team!

It was a special night and a great way to spend time together.

Today is Canadian Library Support Staff Day.

Students come back to the library for a reason. Our secondary school library technicians help a reluctant reader find the right book. They keep the shelves in order and the space welcoming.

To our library technicians: thank you. Thank you for your knowledge, your patience and the steady work you do to build a love of reading. Our students are better readers and better thinkers because of you.
