Members of the Okanagan Indo Canadian Seniors Society came together this week and, in just 30 minutes, raised $19,184.43 for the SOS Wildfire Response Fund in memory of Daljit S. Sidhu, a longtime Penticton resident remembered for his deep community connections and generous spirit.

We're also grateful to Cascadia Credit Union's Summerland Branch for its recent $10,000 donation.

Together with more than 600 donations from individuals, families, businesses, and organizations, our community has now contributed more than $240,000 to support those affected by the Bald Range wildfire.

Thank you to everyone who has stepped forward to help. Every gift is a powerful expression of compassion, generosity, and community spirit.

The granting process will take some time to organize and we need to coordinate with many local providers who are obviously very, very busy right now.

Please understand that we are NOT ready to release funds at this time and registration does NOT guarantee support.

SOS Wildfire Response Fund @ www cfso.net

Our hearts are breaking as fires ravage Summerland. So many people have lost their homes and treasures despite the best efforts of first responders.

Generous residents have already reached out asking how they can help so we have set up the South Okanagan Similkameen Wildfire Response Fund.

Just like when floods destroyed much of Princeton, donations to this fund will go directly to helping victims of the fires.

IndigiNews published a fascinating story this week about the Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre's snake research and education programs in Osoyoos. For more than 20 years, researchers have been studying local snake species, helping protect critical habitat, and teaching residents how to safely live alongside these often misunderstood animals.

We’re proud to support the important work of both IndigiNews and Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre. Through its Snake Safety Program, Nk’Mip provides free public training, a dedicated Snake Support Line, and humane snake relocation services when necessary. By combining education with direct community support, the program helps reduce fear, improve safety, and protect species that play a vital role in the South Okanagan ecosystem.

As wildfires continue to impact communities across the North Okanagan and neighbouring areas, families are facing evacuation, loss, and uncertainty.

The Community Foundation North Okanagan has established the Wildfire Response 2026 Fund to provide a trusted, local way to help. Donations will support evacuees and affected families, both now and throughout the recovery process.
