💙💚 HAPPY HEU DAY! 💚💙

Today, October 13, we celebrate HEU Day. A day to recognize the strength, dedication, diversity, and solidarity of the members who make up the Hospital Employees’ Union!

Did you know that HEU’s history dates back to October 13, 1944? The union was formed when the separate men’s and women’s unions at Vancouver General Hospital came together to create the Hospital Employees’ Federal Union! What began with workers joining forces has grown into one of British Columbia’s largest health care unions, representing tens of thousands of members across hospitals, long-term care, community health, social services, and more.

For more than 80 years, our union has been built on the voices of working people standing together for fairness, respect, workplace safety, and better working conditions.

Today, we celebrate every member. the frontline workers, support staff, and everyone who helps keep our health care system running. Every role matters. Every voice matters. And together, we are stronger 💪
Thank you for the work you do, the care you provide, and the solidarity you bring to our union every day.

💙💚 Happy HEU Day to all our members!

🍂🧡 Happy Thanksgiving from your HEU family! 🧡🍂

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what we’re grateful for, and we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible members who make up HEU.

We’re thankful for our members who show up every day, support one another, stand together, and continue to make a difference in the lives of the people we care for and the communities we serve. Your hard work, compassion, and dedication matter more than you know!

We hope everyone gets a chance to slow down, enjoy some good food, spend time with loved ones, and take a well-deserved moment for themselves.

From our HEU family to yours, we wish you all a safe, happy, and wonderful Thanksgiving! 🦃🍁
Together, we’re stronger. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! ❤️✊

We’ve got some meetings, events, and parties coming up, and we want to make sure everyone knows what’s happening and has a chance to get involved. 🙌

📅 Keep an eye on this page and the bulletin board in the basement outside of the cafeteria!for upcoming dates, announcements, and details!

Let’s get this page back to being a place where we can connect, share information, have a few laughs, and maybe even have some fun along the way! 🥳
Stay tuned… we’ve got some things coming! 👀✨

Many HEU members in Summerland have been evacuated alongside residents from their worksites, while other members across B.C. have also been evacuated or are facing wildfire threats.

Many are continuing to care for others while worrying about their own homes, families and communities.

The rapidly unfolding wildfire situation has been extremely difficult for many communities in B.C.

Our thoughts are with the households that have been evacuated and our members who have been redeployed as a result of the wildfire activity.

🚨 Important reminder for HEU members affected by wildfires this summer.

HEU's Disaster Relief Fund provides short-term financial relief to members who are personally affected by a wildfire. The fund provides $500 per family to help with immediate needs.

🔗 For more information about eligibility and how to apply, please visit HEU.org/Disaster-Relief-Fund

☎️ HEU Wildfire Hotline and Email

For members who are directly impacted, HEU representatives are available to provide support and respond to questions about the impact of wildfires on your workplace.

Call HEU’s Wildfire Hotline at 1-888-392-9710 or email [email protected] to connect with HEU staff.

Please stay safe and remember that your union is here to support you during this difficult time.
