One of the questions you have asked me in the past is how you can make a contribution that stays 100% in our community and has the most impact here. Well, today is that day.

For ONE DAY ONLY 100% of every donation made on TODAY JUNE 17 between 8:00 AM and midnight will stay with your BC NDP organizers here in Penticton, Summerland and Naramata.

That means your contribution will help us organize, train volunteers, and prepare to take on the BC Conservatives and Kerry-Lynne Findlay head-on. We have a real opportunity in the next election to send an NDP MLA to Victoria, but we'll need to be ready.

This summer is already off to a strong start. In early June we elected a new local executive with both fresh faces and longtime activists. Last weekend we sent members of our EDA to Kelowna for the 2026 Forward Training Conference to make sure our team has the tools and training needed for the months ahead.

Workers already struggle to enforce the most basic rights they have under the law. Wage theft, unsafe conditions, and employers who ignore the rules are far too common. Instead of strengthening protections and enforcement, this bill would make it even harder for workers to stand up for themselves.

That tells you exactly who this bill is meant to protect. It is not workers.

When politicians start attacking the very systems workers rely on to defend their rights, working people should pay attention.

The BC Building Trades strongly oppose the BC Conservative, “Public Sector Construction Projects Procurement Act”. This proposal is a direct attack on provisions that prioritize local labour, ensuring British Columbians are first in line for jobs on BC Projects. It is an attack on fair wages, safe working conditions and the skilled union workforce that builds and maintains the province’s public infrastructure. The BC Building Trades calls on the Conservative Party of BC to withdraw this legislation.

🧡 Wow - what an amazing response to our province-wide Double Impact Day. Thank you so much to each of you here in Penticton, Summerland, and Naramata that made a contribution on Dec 9 as part of our annual year-end fundraising.

🧡 Thank you as well to the hundreds of you that contribute in many more ways. It truly does make a difference and we're so glad to have you holding up our movement and putting people first.

🧡 We were so inspired by all of our riding associations working hard across the province and the New Democrats that stepped up with generous holiday giving. We're ready to go spread the holiday cheer!!! Limt Limt.

Great news!

After years of advocacy and pressure at the bargaining table, more than 5,000 long-term care and assisted living workers working at directly contracted sites will transition back under the Facilities Collective Agreement.

This means:
💰 Stronger wages
❤️‍🩹 Improved benefits
🏦 Access to pensions
⚓ Greater stability in the sector

This agreement continues the work of reversing decades of unequal standards created through privatization and contract-flipping. It’s a major step toward restoring fairness for workers and strengthening the consistency and quality of care for seniors.

This victory belongs to health care workers who organized, spoke out and refused to accept a system built on inequity. And we’re not done — we’ll keep fighting until every seniors’ care worker in B.C. has the protections they deserve. ✊
