We had a great time visiting Alternatives Community Program Services Peterborough to provide staff with hands-on fire safety and fire extinguisher training!

Our training covered important fire safety practices, including how to recognize fire hazards, what to do in the event of a fire, and how to safely use a fire extinguisher when appropriate. 🧯

A big thank you to the Alternatives team for taking the time to learn, ask questions, and help keep their staff and clients safe.

Water Safety with PFS!

🌊 Wear your life jacket. A properly fitted life jacket can save your life, even if you're a strong swimmer.

👫 Swim with a buddy. Never swim alone. Having someone with you means help is close by if an emergency happens.

🚫 Don't jump from bridges. Bridge jumping is extremely dangerous. Water depths can change, hidden rocks and debris can cause serious injuries, and strong currents can quickly pull you under.

A fun day on the water starts with making safe choices. Whether you're swimming, boating, paddling, or fishing, remember that drowning can happen quickly and silently.

🚫 No Open Air Burning in the City of Peterborough 🚒

Did you know that open air burning is not permitted within the City of Peterborough?

Backyard fire pits, burning yard waste, and other forms of open air burning can quickly become dangerous. Even when a fire appears to be under control, changing weather conditions can cause it to spread rapidly, putting people, property, and emergency responders at risk.

When residents call 9-1-1 or Peterborough Fire Services to report smoke or an unauthorized outdoor fire, firefighters must respond. Every response to an illegal open air burn ties up firefighters that could be needed for a real emergency, such as a house fire, medical emergency, or motor vehicle collision.

🔥 Never having an open air fire within the City of Peterborough.
🌿 Disposing of yard waste through approved municipal programs.
🚬 Properly extinguishing and disposing of smoking materials.

For more fire safety information, follow Peterborough Fire Services and visit the City of Peterborough's website.

Happy Canada Day from Peterborough Fire Services!

Wishing everyone a safe, fun, and memorable Canada Day as we celebrate our incredible country with family, friends, and community.

If you're planning to enjoy fireworks, our safest recommendation is to attend a professional fireworks display. Professional shows provide an amazing experience while reducing the risk of injuries and fires.

If you choose to use consumer fireworks, remember to:
🎆 Follow all manufacturer instructions.
👨‍👩‍👧 Keep children and spectators at a safe distance and ensure children are always supervised.
💧 Have a hose or bucket of water nearby.
🚫 Never re-light or pick up fireworks that fail to ignite.
🌿 Be mindful of dry grass, trees, buildings, and other combustible materials.
📞 Call 9-1-1 immediately if a fire starts or someone is injured.

Let's all do our part to keep our community safe while celebrating.

Have a wonderful Canada Day!
Be Safe. Have Fun. Happy Canada Day!❤️🍁

➡️Always keep a water hose or pail of water close by when discharging fireworks.
➡️Discharge fireworks well away from combustible materials such as buildings, trees and dry grass.
➡️Keep onlookers a safe distance away, upwind from the area where fireworks are discharged.
