National AccessAbility Week (NAAW), held annually during the last week of May, is a Canadian initiative celebrating the contributions of people with disabilities and promoting a barrier-free, inclusive country. It highlights efforts to remove accessibility barriers in workplaces and communities. OSSTF D14 is heavily involved in KPR’s AODA committee, speaking up for the rights of those to work without restrictions.

Here is the full press conference announcing The Fighting Extreme Heat in Schools Act (2026) - creating an accountability framework for maximum school temperatures of 26C. Chris, the President of our locaI, was very pleased to be invited to speak.

Our district, including KPR ETFO News & Events and CUPE Local 5555 members have submitted data points to assist in our local advocacy towards hot building plans. KPR has been agreeable but the pressures of budget and lack of legislative requirement remain a barrier.

We truly hope this legislation gets passed and I'll do what is needed to get it there. Kids deserve learning environments that are comfortable all year. Our schools were not designed with this climate in mind.
