JOINT STATEMENT: Minister Calandra said he was confident new collective agreements could be reached before the end of summer.

August 31 has come and gone, and more than 275,000 teachers and education workers are heading into the school year without new contracts.

The problem is bigger than missed timelines. Ontario’s publicly funded education system is under immense strain, and the Ford government is trying to take even more decision-making away from local communities and concentrate it at Queen’s Park.

Together with our education affiliates, we are calling for respect for the bargaining process, meaningful negotiations, and real action on the challenges facing students and education workers.

Calling all OCT Members: is seeking Ontario College of Teachers certified Members to join course writing teams for the development of new Additional Qualification (AQ) courses in:

• Addressing Anti-Black Racism (Part 1, Part 2, Specialist)
• Cooperative Education (Part 1, Part 2, Specialist)
• Teaching English Language Learners (Part 1, Part 2, Specialist)

Opportunity includes:
· Remote work from Oct. 2026-Apr. 2027
· Some evening & Sat. virtual meetings
· $6000 stipend
· Serve as the lead on one course and collaborate on the others in the subject

Who we are looking for:
• OCT-certified OSSTF/FEESO Members
• 5+ years teaching experience; subject experience and/or leadership an asset
• Specialist or equivalent experience in the course area
• Experience with online courses and adult learners a plus

OSSTF District 14 is happy to celebrate our own Stephen Helleiner for his work as an OTF governor. Last night Steve received his Federation Fellowship for his 5 consecutive terms of work as an OTF governor. We are so proud of your work Steve and we are lucky you are on our team!

World Humanitarian Day is an international observance marked annually on August 19 to recognize humanitarian personnel and honor those who have died in the line of duty. It commemorates the 2003 Canal Hotel bombing in Baghdad, Iraq, which killed 22 aid workers, including UN Special Representative Sérgio Vieira de Mello.

Nelson Mandela International Day is celebrated globally every year on July 18 to honor the life and legacy of South Africa's former President. The United Nations officially established the day to inspire individuals, communities, and organizations worldwide to make a positive impact. The core of Mandela Day is a call to action asking people around the world to dedicate 67 minutes of their time to public service. This symbolic number represents the 67 years that Nelson Mandela devoted his life to the service.

World Population Day is an annual event observed on July 11 to raise awareness of global population issues, including family planning, gender equality, and sustainable development.
