Year after year, the Trent-Severn Waterway, meandering 386 km along central Ontario, continues to create unique experiences. After each spring thaw, the Waterway's historic locks and canals open, linking a passageway so magnificent it has been named "one of the finest interconnected systems of navigation in the world". Those who visit, reminisce long after leaving. They can't help but remember the impressive locks and lofty legends that make up one of Canada's most spectacular waterways.

The locks here at Burleigh Falls are unique for the sheer amount of effort it took to create them! 💪 Did you know workers had to blast through sheer granite to build them! 😱

Construction for the 7.3 meter drop was done by hand and completed in 1887. 👍

📅 On Thursday, August 20th, from 1 pm to 7 pm, Parks Canada and Stantec will be at Lock 34 - Fenelon Falls to connect with the community and gather feedback on the draft master site plan.

This plan will serve as a blueprint for future improvements to the site and support future lock and dam rehabilitation projects. Whether you're a resident, visitor, boater, or local business owner, we want to hear from you. ❤️

Do you remember what pleasurecrafts used to look like? This photo, although taken in 2011, showcases what boating on the locks looked like. 🕒❤️

These boats became the norm on the waterway during the 1950s and 1960s, and you can still sometimes see them at hobby conventions or with enthusiasts dedicated to keeping history alive!

Do you have any piece of history from the water you have been keeping alive? Share with us below! 🤩

Before you hit the water, take 60 seconds to brush up on the basics of locking through.

Here are the highlights of some of the most important things every boater should know:
🔹 Slow to a no-wake speed
🔹 Wait at the blue line
🔹 Follow lock staff directions
🔹 Exit slowly and safely

A little preparation helps keep everyone safe and moving smoothly through the locks. 💙

Did you know? Swift Rapids lock was a marine railway at one point! 😱👀

Built in 1919 over a lock foundation as a temporary solution by Orillia Water Light and Power Commission, the marine railway seen in this photo was eventually replaced in 1964 with the giant mechanical lock in use today. As the deepest lock on the system, Swift Rapids has a lift of 14.3 metres (47 feet) and is a marvel to behold! 🤩
