As summer begins to wind down, our focus at the Kawartha-Haliburton Children's Foundation shifts to helping children and youth start the new school year with confidence.
Over the past month, our office has been buzzing as we've packed more than 200 backpacks filled with school supplies for children and youth involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children's Aid Society. A new backpack may seem like a small thing, but for a child heading back to school, it can provide confidence, excitement, and the feeling that someone in their community believes in them.
This incredible effort wouldn't be possible without the generosity of our community. A heartfelt thank you to Gauvreau Accounting Tax Law Advisory, Lakefield Farmers' Market, D.M. Wills Associates Limited, Kiwanis Club of Peterborough, Kate L. Toms Fit, The Hot Tub People, Crayola WARDS Lawyers PC, Coldwell Banker Electric Realty, Brokerage, Haliburton Home Hardware and Appliance Store, Elementary Educators and the many individual donors who have contributed supplies, funding, and encouragement. Your support is helping ensure that local children have the tools they need to begin the school year ready to learn.
We continue to receive requests for support right up until the first day of school. When you are doing your back-to-school shopping, if you are able, consider buying a few extra supplies and dropping them off at our office? We pack each backpack individually so even a few extra school supplies can make a significant difference to a child.
If you'd prefer to make a financial contribution, donations to our Thrive Fund https://www.khcas.on.ca/foundation/khcf/donate/ allows us to not only purchase last minute backpack supplies, but helps us support kids throughout the school year with the essential items they need for success.
As another school year begins, we're grateful to everyone who helps make the work we do possible. Together, we're giving local children more than school supplies, we're giving them a positive start to the year.
