๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to our Active Together Co-Chair, Alec Denys, on receiving the 2026 Trailblazer Award from the Abilities Centre in Whitby during the kickoff to National Accessibility Week!

A five-time Paralympian, Paralympic gold medalist, former world record holder in para archery, and lifelong advocate for accessibility and inclusion, Alec has dedicated decades to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for people with disabilities.

The Trailblazer Award is one of only five annual Accessibility Awards presented by the Abilities Centre and recognizes an individual with a disability who has overcome systemic barriers to achieve significant accomplishments that redefine how society perceives ability. With nominations received from across Canada, this honour reflects the extraordinary impact Alec has made both locally and nationally.

Through his leadership, mentorship, volunteerism, and commitment to inclusive recreation, Alec has inspired countless individuals and helped build more accessible communities for all.

As Alec so eloquently stated:

"The real measure of success isn't the barriers we've overcome ourselves. It's the barriers we've helped remove for others."

This award recognizes not only Alec's remarkable achievements but also the lasting difference he continues to make in the lives of others.

On behalf of the Council for Persons with Disabilities, congratulations, Alec, on this well-deserved national recognition. Thank you for your leadership, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to accessibility and inclusion. ๐Ÿ‘

For five years, Capable Con has brought people together to connect, share experiences and learn from one another!

Itโ€™s a space where people can hear directly from members of the community about what helps, what gets in the way and what inclusion can look like in everyday life.

This yearโ€™s event includes interactive experiences and activities throughout the day.

Over the years, people have discovered new programs, met new people and seen their community in a different way. Thatโ€™s what keeps them coming back year after year.

Join us as we celebrate this milestone on Saturday, June 6 at Quaker Foods City Square, 215 Charlotte Street, Peterborough.

The Council for Persons with Disabilities extends our heartfelt congratulations to Andrea Dodsworth on being named the 2025 Holnbeck Award Recipient by The City of Peterborough ๐Ÿ‘

Andrea has dedicated a lifetime to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities in our community through extraordinary service, advocacy, and compassionate leadership. For decades, she has been a tireless voice for inclusion, accessibility, and dignity โ€” ensuring individuals and families are not only supported, but empowered, respected, and truly included.

Her leadership has helped remove barriers, strengthen community partnerships, and shape more inclusive programs and services throughout Peterborough. What makes Andreaโ€™s impact especially remarkable is the humility, empathy, and kindness she brings to everything she does. Whether advocating for systemic change, mentoring others, or quietly supporting families through challenges, Andrea has consistently placed community above self.

The Holnbeck Award recognizes individuals whose lifelong volunteer contributions create meaningful and lasting change, and Andrea embodies that spirit in every sense.

Thank you, Andrea, for your unwavering dedication and for helping make Peterborough a more compassionate, accessible, and welcoming community for all. โค๏ธ
