This week, three police services are grieving the devastating loss of members to su***de.
Peterborough Professional Fire Fighters Association stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in policing, their families, colleagues, friends, and the communities they served.

Behind the uniform is a person. A parent, partner, friend, teammate. The weight carried by those who serve our communities is not always visible, and no one should have to carry it alone.

To every first responder struggling in silence: you matter. Your life matters. Reaching out is strength.

We mourn alongside our policing family and honour the lives and service of those lost. 🖤💙❤️

Three services. Three heartbreaking losses. One first responder family standing together.

Peterborough Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 169 is proud to be in Arlington, Texas this week for the 58th IAFF Convention.

Joining firefighters from across Canada and the U.S. to represent our members and help shape the future of our union.

This week, four of our executive members joined delegates from across Ontario to gather at the annual OPFFA Convention to discuss the issues shaping the future of the fire service and our association.

We were also honoured to attend the OPFFA Memorial Service, taking time to remember and pay tribute to the firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their dedication, courage, and service will never be forgotten.

A special thank you to Solicitor General Michael Kerzner for attending and addressing delegates during the convention.

Today we had the pleasure of gathering for our annual Retiree BBQ to reconnect with the men and women who dedicated their careers to serving our department and community.

Thank you to our retirees for your years of commitment, sacrifice, and service. Your legacy continues to inspire those who follow in your footsteps.

This , we stand behind those who always stand in front of danger.

First Responders carry the weight of trauma, loss, and the worst days of people’s lives. Across Canada, research shows firefighters face increased risks of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders due to repeated exposure to critical incidents and long, unpredictable shifts.
Yet too many still struggle in silence, held back by stigma, culture, or lack of access to support.

If you’re a first responder (or love one), support is available:
• Boots on the Ground (24/7 anonymous peer support): 1-833-677-2668
•Wounded Warriors 1-888-706-4808
• Peer support teams & local department resources
• Talk to someone you trust, you don’t have to carry it alone

Reaching out is not weakness…it’s strength.

To every firefighter:
We see you. We appreciate you. And your mental health matters just as much as the lives you save. ❤️🚒

Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we pause to recognize the courage, grit, and heart it takes to answer the call, no matter the hour, no matter the risk.

To the ones who run toward what others run from… who carry more than just gear on their backs… who show up on people’s worst days with strength and compassion—you don’t go unnoticed.

This job asks a lot. Physically, mentally, emotionally. And still, you show up.

Grateful for the bravery. The sacrifice. The dark humor. The unbreakable bonds.

Peterborough Professional Fire Fighters Association was proud to be on Parliament Hill at the 33rd annual Legislative Conference advocating for the issues that matter to our members and the communities we serve. We discussed the importance of line-of-duty death benefits for our fallen, and the need to stay ahead of emerging risks such as lithium-ion battery fires and airport emergency responses.

We appreciate MP Emma Harrison for taking the time to meet with us, discuss these important matters, and stand behind those who protect the public every day

Before the trucks roll and the lights flash, there’s a voice making it all happen. 🚒📞

During Public Safety Telecommunications Week, we recognize our dispatchers—the calm, steady presence behind every call, guiding crews and supporting firefighters when seconds count. Proudly dispatching for 3 full-time departments and 14 volunteer departments, your impact reaches far and wide.

Your voice is the first link in the chain. Thank you for your dedication, focus, and commitment to keeping both our crews and community safe. 🔥
