The last few months have brought some of the highest levels of demand we’ve experienced at St. Paul’s on-the-Hill Community Food Bank. More and more families are turning to us for help.

As Christmas approaches, we know that for many families in Pickering and Ajax, the holidays will bring more worry than celebration.

Our Christmas Hamper Program is about more than providing food. It’s about easing the burden, bringing comfort, and reminding struggling families that their community cares.

We need your help to make that happen. Whether it’s a monetary donation, holiday food items, or a brand-new toy for a child, every contribution makes a meaningful difference.

THE NEED IS GROWING. AND WE NEED OUR COMMUNITY MORE THAN EVER.

September was one of our highest service months to date at St. Paul’s on-the-Hill Community Food Bank, and the numbers tell a powerful story.

Behind every number is a person, a family, a neighbour. Someone doing their best to make ends meet, but finding it increasingly difficult to put food on the table.

We are seeing more and more people turning to our food bank for help. Families who have never needed our services before are walking through our doors. Parents are struggling to afford groceries, seniors are stretching already limited incomes, and hardworking individuals are finding that their paycheques simply aren’t going far enough.

And while the need continues to grow, keeping our shelves stocked is becoming increasingly difficult.

To our incredible donors, community partners, and supporters: THANK YOU! Your generosity is the reason we can continue showing up for our neighbours when they need us most.

But we cannot do this alone.

Earlier in September, we were honoured to be invited to take part in the Seniors Fall Market, hosted by ITPC Durham!

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with guests, share more about the work happening at St. Paul’s on-the-Hill Community Food Bank, and talk about an important reality in our community — the growing number of seniors who are turning to food banks for support.

We are incredibly grateful for every opportunity to raise awareness, build connections, and remind our community that food insecurity can affect our neighbours at every stage of life.

Thank you to ITPC Durham for your support, leadership, and commitment to building a stronger, more connected community. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share our work, the people we serve, and the impact our community is making together.

4 STORES. 4 HOURS. 3,300 LBS OF FOOD. AND A WHOLE LOT OF COMMUNITY LOVE! ❤️

WOW, Pickering…you showed up in a BIG way today!

Our Thanksgiving Food Drive was an incredible success, with 3,300 pounds of food collected in just FOUR hours!

As more individuals and families turn to our food bank for support, keeping our shelves stocked has become increasingly challenging. Today was a beautiful reminder of what happens when a community comes together with one shared purpose: making sure our neighbours have food on their tables.

A HUGE thank you to our amazing store partners, Derek’s Independent Grocer, FreshCo, Metro and Loblaws, for welcoming us and supporting our mission.

To every shopper who purchased an extra item, donated a bag of groceries, contributed financially, or simply stopped to show their support — THANK YOU! Every single contribution makes a difference.

And to our INCREDIBLE volunteers, who gave up their Saturday to collect donations, greet shoppers, transport food, unload vehicles and get everything back to the food bank — you are the heart of this organization. We couldn’t do any of this without you!

Seeing our community come together like this, especially when the need is greater than ever, means more than words can express.

3,300 pounds of food. Thousands of acts of kindness. One amazing community.

WHAT A NIGHT! MEALS FOR REELS WAS A HIT!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who joined us for our Meals for Reels: A Community Movie Night! Seeing our community come together for an evening of fun, connection and kindness was exactly what this event was all about.

We are incredibly grateful to the City of Pickering for partnering with us to make this special evening possible, and a big thank you to Elaine Knox for all of her hard work behind the scenes helping bring everything together.

And what’s a movie night without snacks?! A HUGE thank you to Derek’s Your Independent Grocer, FreshCo Pickering and Metro for generously providing all of the refreshments for our guests. You certainly helped make movie night extra delicious!

Of course, we couldn’t do any of this without our AMAZING volunteers. From setting up and welcoming guests to handing out snacks and representing the Food Bank with huge smiles, you brought your usual incredible energy and heart. We are so lucky to have you! 💚

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended and brought donations for the Food Bank. Community kindness really does make a BIG impact.
