The Village of Point Edward is flying flags at half mast today in honour of those that lost their lives in Wainwright, Alberta. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those impacted by the tragic loss of our brave Canadian soldiers.

The Municipal Office at 135 Kendall Street will be available all week, October 19-23, to provide voter assistance. If you require a Voter Information Letter, or any assistance with voting, please feel free to come by the office between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm. We will be happy to help you cast your vote.

The Village Office will be open today between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm for anyone needing voter assistance. The office is located at 135 Kendall Street. We can help you get your Voter Information Letter, if needed. and we can help you with the voting process. We hope to see you between 9:00 and 4:00.

Point Edward Welcomes Rick MacGregor as New Chief of Fire & Rescue Services
Point Edward, ON — October 15, 2026 — The Village of Point Edward is pleased to announce the appointment of Rick MacGregor as the new Chief of Point Edward Fire & Rescue, marking an important moment for the community and the dedicated team that serves it.

Chief MacGregor has been with the Department since 2000 and became a Lieutenant in 2004. During this time Rick had responsibility for Fire Prevention and Public Education. In 2011 Rick was named Deputy Fire Chief and Community Emergency Management Co-Ordinator. Chief MacGregor has been serving as the Acting Fire Chief since November of 2025.

“Rick understands Point Edward,” said Mayor Bev Hand. “He knows our community, our people, and the values that make this Village special. His commitment to building strong relationships and supporting our firefighters makes him an outstanding choice to lead the department. I believe that promoting from within the Department will provide a measure of comfort for our Firefighters”

MacGregor’s experience includes operational leadership, emergency management, and hands on training development. His appointment follows a thorough selection process focused on finding a leader who reflects the Village’s priorities: safety, preparedness, and a strong connection with residents.

“I’m honoured to serve the people of Point Edward,” said Chief MacGregor. “Our firefighters are deeply committed to this community, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to strengthen our services, expand fire prevention and public education, and continue building relationships in the community.”

Point Edward Fire & Rescue provides fire suppression, emergency medical response, rescue services, and public education throughout the Village. Under Chief MacGregor’s leadership, the department will continue enhancing community outreach, supporting volunteer firefighters, and ensuring residents have the resources and information they need to stay safe.

Alexandra Avenue between Venetian Boulevard and Holders Lane will be closed to traffic starting at 8:00 am on Monday October 5, 2026 for asphalt repairs. We are hopeful that the road will be reopened by 5:00 pm.

Thanks to the Point Edward Optimist Club for hosting this all candidates night.

Please join us for the Point Edward All Candidates Meeting at the Point Edward Optimist Community Hall, located at 210 Monk Street, Point Edward, on October 5th.

This moderated event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will provide an opportunity to hear from the candidates running for Village Council and Mayor.

Come out, learn more about the candidates, hear their perspectives on issues important to our community, and take part in this opportunity to become informed ahead of the municipal election.
