Public Notice – Town of Point May

The Town of Point May Council wishes to inform residents that concerns regarding the old soccer field have been formally discussed at a number of recent council meetings.

Due to timing constraints, the Town did not have an opportunity to respond to a recent report published by a Saltwire reporter prior to this meeting. As a result, Council would like to clarify several important points directly with the public.

Following discussion, the Town has requested the assistance of the Point May Fire Department to conduct a controlled burn of the old soccer field at a more suitable time outside of wildfire season. This step will help clear overgrowth and allow for a more thorough assessment of the current condition of the land.

Council also acknowledges that ongoing shoreline deterioration and flooding in this area presents significant challenges and makes long-term investment in the existing field difficult at this time.

Looking ahead, the Town of Point May is committed to supporting and growing recreation spaces and active living within the community. We will be actively pursuing grant opportunities aimed at improving sports infrastructure and promoting physical activity for both children and adults in our community.

In the interim, the Town welcomes the soccer activities at the softball field, which remains a viable and accessible space for recreational use with a goal of creating a more multipurpose space.
We appreciate the community’s understanding and ongoing support as we work toward sustainable and practical solutions.
