On April 30, 2026, the Pond Inlet RCMP, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of the community. Police seized alcohol, alcohol-based cleaners and cash.

Police have charged Robert Hall (age 55) with:

- Unlawful sale of liquor, contrary to Section 84 of the Nunavut Liquor Act.

Hall is scheduled to appear before the Nunavut Court of Justice on July 21, 2026, in Pond Inlet, Nunavut.

โ€œWe will continue to work hard to combat the illegal sale of alcohol as it has a destructive impact on our community and we will continue to receive information from the public regarding the illegal sale of liquorโ€ said Corporal Amee Pirlot of the Pond Inlet RCMP Detachment.

The Pond Inlet RCMP encourages anyone with information about the illegal sale of alcohol to contact them at 867-899-0123. If you have information about the illegal sale of alcohol and would like to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

**SPOT Devices Help Keep Pond Inlet Safe**

The Hamlet of Pond Inlet is sharing these videos to help promote the proper use of **SPOT devices** for anyone travelling on the land, ice, or water.

SPOT devices are an important safety tool. They help provide peace of mind for families and support emergency response if someone needs help while away from the community.

For this program to work properly, we need to make sure the device is signed out before travel and returned when the trip is finished.

**The goal is simple: the SPOT device goes out, and the SPOT device comes back in.**

This helps Pond Inlet maintain an effective and reliable program so the devices are ready and available for the next person or group heading out.

Before you travel, please remember:

* Sign out the SPOT device properly.
* Learn how to use it before leaving.
* Keep it with you during your trip.
* Return it as soon as you are back.
* Let staff know if there are any issues with the device.

A strong SPOT device program depends on everyone doing their part. Please watch and share these videos with family, friends, hunters, travellers, and anyone who spends time out on the land.

**Working together, we can help keep Pond Inlet travellers safe.**

Emergency Preparedness Week: May 3โ€“9, 2026
Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.

Emergency Preparedness Week is a good reminder for all residents to take simple steps now so we are better prepared when emergencies happen.

Here in Pond Inlet, some of our most realistic risks include power outages, winter storms, extreme cold, communication disruptions, and delays in supplies or services. While we cannot prevent every emergency, we can reduce the impact by being prepared at home.

Residents are encouraged to:

โœ… **Build or update a 72-hour emergency kit**
Include drinking water, non-perishable food, a manual can opener, flashlights, extra batteries or power banks, a battery-powered or wind-up radio, medications, warm clothing, hygiene items, pet supplies, and important documents.

โœ… **Make a household emergency plan**
Talk with your family about what you would do during a power outage, severe weather, or if phone/internet service is unavailable. Make sure children, Elders, and anyone with medical needs are included in the plan.

โœ… **Prepare for power outages**
Keep flashlights easy to find, charge phones and battery packs when storms are expected, limit cellphone use during outages, and keep one light switched on so you know when power has returned.

โœ… **Use generators and fuel-burning equipment safely**
Never use BBQs, camp stoves, portable burners, or fuel-burning equipment inside homes, sheds, garages, tents, or enclosed areas. Generators must be used outdoors and kept away from doors, windows, and air intakes.

โœ… **Check smoke and carbon monoxide alarms**
Carbon monoxide has no smell, taste, or colour. A working carbon monoxide alarm is the only way to detect it. If your alarm sounds, leave immediately and call the Fire Department.

Preparedness does not need to be complicated. A few basic steps today can make a major difference for your family, your neighbours, and the community during an emergency.

**PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: DOGS RUNNING AT LARGE**

The Hamlet of Pond Inlet is advising residents that action will be taken on **Monday, May 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.** in response to dogs running at large throughout the community.

This action is being taken as a public safety measure.

Residents are reminded that dogs are not permitted to run at large, within the Hamlet of Pond Inlet. Dog owners are responsible for keeping their dogs secured, controlled, and properly restrained.

The Hamlet will make reasonable efforts to safely collect roaming dogs where possible. However, if a dog is running freely in the community and cannot be safely captured, it may be destroyed in accordance with the Nunavut Dog Act and the Hamlet of Pond Inlet Domestic Animal Control By-law No. 169.

All public safety precautions will be taken during this activity.

Dog owners are asked to immediately secure their dogs indoors, tied, kenneled, muzzled, or otherwise under proper physical control before this action begins.

This notice is being issued to give residents advance warning and an opportunity to take responsibility for their animals before action is taken.

**Please secure your dogs before Monday, May 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.**

COMMUNITY NOTICE โ€“ ANIMAL CONTROL- DOMESTIC ANIMALS

The Hamlet of Pond Inlet advises residents that we currently do not have a suitable longโ€‘term dog shelter in the community. As a result, any dogs that are picked up must be managed within the limits set out in Domestic Animal Byโ€‘law No. 169 and available operational capacity.

CAPTURED UNTAGGED DOGS
Untagged dogs found roaming the community may be picked up and held during business hours, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A photo of the dog will be posted to help locate the owner.

If the dog is not claimed by 3:30 p.m. on the same day it was picked up, it may be humanely euthanized, in accordance with the byโ€‘law and current shelter constraints.

SURRENDING DOGS
Owners who wish to formally surrender a dog must understand that Animal Control cannot hold dogs longโ€‘term under the current facility situation.

If the owner does not want the dog euthanized, the owner must keep the dog safely at their residence until it can be arranged to fly the dog out to our Shelter Partners in the south.

Animal Control will assist with coordination where possible, but the responsibility for holding the dog safely at home remains with the owner until transport occurs.

WHAT RESIDENTS CAN DO
Ensure all dogs are properly tagged under Domestic Animal Byโ€‘law No. 169. This is of no cost and any owner can obtain a tag for free from the office.

Keep dogs secured on private property or under control at all times.

Contact the Animal Control or Hamlet Office promptly if you see a loose or untagged dog, or if you plan to surrender a dog.

These measures are in place to protect public safety and animal welfare while the Hamlet continues to work toward a permanent dog shelter solution for Pond Inlet.
