There are a couple of bears wandering in and around the community. Please take the appropriate steps to ensure your and the bear's safety.
- Make sure garbage is secured in bear-proof bins, not out until pick-up day.
- Secure green bins after every use and make sure the locks put in place are used
- Do not leave coolers, BBQs, or other attractants accessible.
- DO NOT leave food, naturally grown or otherwise, out for the bears, this is the fastest way to endangering their lives. They will quickly become habituated and become a threat.
- Pick fruit trees and berry bushes as soon as they are ripe and do not leave rotten fruit on the ground.
We all love our local wildlife - let's make sure to do our part to keep them wild.
If the bear behaves aggressively or poses an immediate threat, report it to the BC Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP)

Reminder: Property Taxes are due no later than Friday, July 31st. Any payment after this date will incur a 10% amount on the current amount owing.

If you are eligible for the Home Owner Grant make sure you apply on or before July 31st through the Province at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or call 1-855-355-2700. You must apply every year to receive the grant on your principal residence. The grant is not automatic even if you were approved in previous years.

You can also apply retroactively for last year’s home owner grant, if you meet the following requirements:

-You qualified for the grant on December 31 of last year
-You’re still the registered owner of the property
-You did not apply for a home owner grant on another property
-The home owner grant was not applied for on your property by a previous owner last year

Anyone with your permission can apply on your behalf.

The home owner grant can reduce the amount of property taxes you pay to a municipality or the province for your principal residence.

Effective at 12:00 p.m. (noon) PDT on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Category 1, 2 and 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, with exceptions for Category 1 campfires in parts of the North Island and Sunshine Coast.

Category 1 campfires will remain permitted in the Campbell River Forest District, North Island Central Coast Forest District, Haida Gwaii Forest District and Sunshine Coast Forest District. These areas are currently experiencing different weather and fuel conditions than other parts of the Coastal Fire Centre, with fire danger ratings and fire weather indices indicating a lower wildfire risk at this time.

Conditions are continually monitored, and restrictions are implemented where they are needed most to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires and help protect communities, responders and our forests.
