ATTENTION RESIDENTS:
Requirements for waste collection receptacles.
The preferred, and encouraged, method of placing waste material for curbside collection is covered with a blanket/sheet, tarp or net or within a closable plastic wheeled waste bin.
In the near future, the plan across the province is to discontinue use of garbage boxes and have wheeled waste bins brought to the road on your collection day.
It is currently agreed that waste material can still be collected from bins designed for containing waste material as long as the following criteria are met:
• Waste and recyclables are to be placed no more than 4 meters (13 ft) from the edge of the road. A flat level service straight to the road is the ideal location.
• Absent of snow, ice and other obstructive debris. Ensure the collector can get easy access to the bin. Not over ditches, snowbanks, etc.
• Absent of pests, including nests or infestations of rodents, hornets/wasps or other harmful insects.
• Must be kept in proper working order with no exposed nails, screws, latches, etc.
• No freezers, refrigerators, fish tubs, oil drums, or other containers not designed for storing waste material.
• Residents are responsible for closing garbage box lids after each collection.
• Garbage boxes are the responsibility of the residents. Containerized Sanitation is not responsible for garbage boxes.
