Today, we honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
Reconciliation is an ongoing journey by learning from Indigenous voices and the experiences of Survivors. It is a day to listen, learn and reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of the residential school system.
At the Township Office, the Survivors’ Flag has been raised today and the building will be illuminated in orange this evening. The Survivors’ Flag is an expression of remembrance, meant to honour residential school Survivors and all the lives and communities impacted by the residential school system in Canada. Each element depicted on the flag was carefully selected by Survivors from across Canada, who were consulted in the flag’s creation. • 11:30 a.m. | To***co offering and gathering. Please do not take photos of the sacred fire.
• 12:00 p.m. | Potluck lunch at the Cultural Healing Centre, 2343 Kanien’kehá Iohatátie. Contributions are welcome.
