What's been going on in Saugeen Shores?

August 29th 2026 - Police received a report of a vehicle that was entered in the area of Maplewood Drive. Several personal items had been taken. 30 minutes later Police responded to a trespassing call at a local retailer. Police located and placed a person under arrest. A search of the person located several bank cards confirmed stolen from the entered vehicle. As a result of these incidents a 25-year-old of Bruce County has been arrested and charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. The person was held in custody for a Bail Hearing and remanded into custody due to several previous pending charges.

August 29th 2026 - Police responded to a local restaurant for a report of an intoxicated person harassing and being aggressive with other customers. As a result of this incident a 35-year-old male of Scarborough was arrested for Public intoxication and held in custody until sober. He was issued a ticket under the LLCA.

August 29th 2026 - Police received a report regarding a suspicious dirt bike in the area of Lamont Sports Park. Officers attended and located a male sleeping near by. As officers approached the male woke, mounted the dirt bike and fled the area. Police patrolled the area and located the dirt bike again. The dirt bike attempted to flee and struck a temporary fence. The operator then fled into a wooded area. A check of the dirt bike showed it had been reported stolen from Huron County. The dirt bike was towed from the scene. Investigation is ongoing. SS26007241

August 31st 2026 - Police responded to a report of a suspicious person in a parking lot of a local grocery store. Officers arrived and located two people known to police. As a result a 31-year-old female of Bruce County was arrested on the strength of a warrant held by the Ontario Provincial Police for the offences of Break and Enter. Custody was transferred to the OPP and she was held for a Bail Hearing.

We are saddened to announce the passing of retired Police Service Dog Riker.
 
Riker was a German Shepherd who served the Saugeen Shores community from 2020 until his retirement in July 2024. Riker and his partner, Retired Police Constable Erik Luscombe, handled multiple canine calls for service during their time together.
 
Riker was a General Service Dog, where he was certified in tracking, building searches, area searches, article searches, obedience as well as apprehension. Riker’s contributions helped keep our members and residents safe, his legacy will not be forgotten.
 
The Saugeen Shores Police Service would like to thank K9 Riker for his dedicated and loyal service to the community. He will be missed and remembered by all those whose lives he enriched.
