Voting in the municipal and school board election is now open in Port Hope! Cast your vote online or by telephone anytime before 8 p.m. on October 26. We also have two Voter Assistance Centres (VAC) available where you can cast your online vote in-person. Election Officials are available at the VAC to help if you need assistance. The fall fishing season in the Ganaraska River for atlantic salmon, brown trout, pacific salmon and rainbow trout runs from October 15 to December 31. This extended season applies from the rail bridge near Robertson Street upstream to the south side of the Jocelyn Street Bridge.

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, an internationally recognized campaign to help the public learn more about the importance of cyber security. The campaign helps Canadians stay secure online by teaching them simple steps to protect themselves and their devices. This week, we are proving some tips on Impersonation scams via email - Scammers sometimes send emails that look like they’re from the Municipality (or other legitimate organizations), but they’re not. These messages are designed to trick you into sharing personal or financial information.

If you suspect an email is a scam:
- Don’t reply or click on any links.
- Never share personal or financial details.
- Delete the message right away.

If in doubt, reach out to the organization directly using their official contact information on their website.

Staying cautious keeps you and our community safe. Please help spread the word!

Is your teen a Halloween expert? Put their knowledge to the test at our Youth Halloween Trivia Night! Youth 13 to 17 years are invited to compete through exciting rounds featuring horror movies, TV shows, gaming, cryptids, urban legends and Halloween pop culture. On October 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. they can enjoy a fun evening of friendly competition, spooky vibes and prizes! Costumes are welcome.

Register online at porthope.ca/seasonal-activities. Participants may register as an individual, pair, or team but only one team member needs to register. Teams may include up to 6 participants. Individuals and pairs will be grouped into teams at the start of the event. Space is limited and advance registration is required.

Maintaining buildings in a safe state of repair is an important part of protecting our community. When concerns are identified, Municipal Building Officials and Property Standards Officers work with property owners to determine the appropriate next steps. In some cases, owners may be required to repair, secure or remove an unsafe structure. Property owners are responsible for obtaining the necessary permits and coordinating the required work. Last week was a wonderful week for the Municipality of Port Hope, thanks to the generosity and community spirit of two incredible organizations.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved in the Show n Shine for Spencer Devine charity event, which raises funds each year in support of mental health initiatives. This year, a contribution was made to the Port Hope Fire Fighters Association to support health and wellness programs for members of the fire service.

We are also deeply appreciative of the Rotary Club's generous donation, which made it possible to purchase a new water wheelchair for our therapy pool. This equipment supports accessible water entry for people of all abilities, allowing children and adults alike to safely participate in recreation and therapeutic programming. Already, participants and their families have shared how meaningful this improved access has been.

These contributions reflect the generosity and community-minded spirit that make Port Hope such a special place. Thank you to everyone involved!
