Hi everyone - with the snap provincial election coming up this weekend, I’ve been asked by a few people for a refresher on the NDP’s push over the last several years to put a supportive housing shelter on city land at 3051 St. Johns.

I’m reposting my latest summary here, and I highly recommend looking up the Dispatch article about this issue entitled “Port Moody releases timeline of shelved St. Johns Street housing project; council discussion reveals divisions over its rejection” dated Nov 3.

I work for Port Moody residents. They have all told me clearly that they are opposed to allowing the NDP/Province to put a shelter at this particular location, adjacent to our schools and a coming daycare.

And for anyone wondering, no, I am not a member of our provincial Conservative Party 😉✌️

Everyone - thanks so much for the birthday and other well wishes today!

It’s been a wild couple of days and there will be some changes ahead to navigate. I’m up for it.

2 things:

1) if you took one of my lawn signs, please leave them where they are or put them at the front of your home where I can easily find them. I will pick them all up this week and by Friday at the latest. Please do not throw them away or recycle them! I may re-use them in 4 years 😉

2) There is a provincial election NEXT WEEKEND and I’m hoping you all get out there and vote. I would be lying if I didn’t say I have serious conflict of interest concerns about the fact that our new Mayor is married to our MLA. The last thing our city needs is more drama and distraction from the important work that needs to be done at both levels of government. Choose wisely, Port Moody/Burquitlam 💚

First, THANK YOU SO MUCH Port Moody for giving me your support and trust for another 4 years.

I intend to keep my promises. I feel confident that with the Council that was elected tonight, we can work together to do what needs to be done for our residents and businesses.

To my council colleagues that weren’t re-elected tonight, you have made positive and indelible impacts on my life and my work, and I hope you will allow me to continue to reach out to you for advice going forward. Thank you so much for your service to our incredible city.

It’s E-day! And I wanted to post this endorsement last because it means a lot to me.

I met Jo-Anne during Covid in 2020 while we were both volunteering for the Port Moody Foundation. Our meeting was brief, but I remember thinking how cool that she is still actively volunteering in our community, years after serving as a City Councillor.

When you first run for office, endorsements help! Thanks to our brief connection, she agreed to meet with me in 2022 to share her thoughts and experiences when I told her I was thinking about running for Council. We agreed on where we thought our city needed to go, but she wanted to make sure I understood that being a councillor is a lot more work than people realize, and wanted to know my plan if I was elected. I promised her I could do this.

She took a chance on this newbie nobody and wrote me one of the only endorsements I had in 2022. I put it in my brochure!

In the last four years, I have thought about her endorsement many times; whether she was glad she gave it to me, and whether I was keeping my end of our bargain by doing the things I promised.

This year, I asked her for a new endorsement, and again she said yes; this time with confidence. 🥹 So special thanks to you, Jo-Anne, for your trust, support, and your leap of faith in me. 💚

I’ve had the opportunity to meet many incredible community members these last few years, and my endorsement album is now full of people I respect, and I am grateful.

I learned a LOT these last four years, and I am so ready to take this work to the next level. I have a batch of new promises that I intend to keep, the same way I kept the ones I made in 2022.

And never stop volunteering.

Good afternoon, Port Moody! With only a few days left to go before the election, I've saved one of my favourite (and longest!) endorsements for (almost) last.

It has been my distinct pleasure and honour to serve as Chair of the City's Arts, Culture and Heritage Society for 2.5 of the last 4 years, as the City liaison to PoMoArts and to POMO Museum for the same period of time, and as the Vice Chair of this Council's Task Force on Arts and Business.

I think I've only missed one or two of these meetings, and I was particularly excited to read the final report on Arts & Business in Port Moody, delivered only last month to Council. We have a real opportunity to make Port Moody a destination for arts, business, and tourism in the next few years - and I hope I'm around to be part of this evolution for our City! I'll put a link to the report in the comments.

As someone with pretty much no personal artistic talent or inclination, but finding myself with two daughters who are thriving in different sectors of the visual and performing arts, the opportunity to become a contributor and advocate for arts in the last four years has brought a great change to my life. I recently joined the Board of a local and non-profit performing arts society, and the people I've met along the way have been all the reward I needed.
