Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter This page is used for the purpose of promoting the animals available for adoption at our shelter.

The Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter is medium sized shelter located just outside of historic Port Perry on the shores of Lake Sugog. We have a large grass dog yard for exercise and playtime, indoor/outdoor kennels and two cat adoption rooms. We pride ourselves on providing all animals with daily one on one attention from our caring staff. All animals have a warm soft bed with toys and treats to keep them as comfortable and relaxed as possible while they wait for their forever homes. We closely screen all pets and potential adopters so we may place the most suitable pet with your and your family. Donations we receive ensure that we are able to spay or neuter, vaccinate and microchip all animals prior to adoption. We are also happy to accept donations such as towels and blankets, cat and dog toys, canned cat and kitten food. https://www.scugog.ca/en/live-and-play/Animal-Services.aspx?_mid_=102594

PATSY’S ADOPTION FILES: DASH 📋🐱

Alright, everyone. Today’s file is a little different. Not every cat is looking for a busy household, constant attention, or a personal entertainment committee. Some of us simply want a cozy spot, a little peace and quiet, and humans who understand the importance of personal space. Honestly, Dash and I may have more in common than I care to admit. 🐰

Meet Dash! 🧡

Dash is a 3-year-old neutered orange-and-white gentleman who arrived at the shelter in August. Since then, the humans have been patiently trying to help him feel comfortable around people and other cats. And while Dash hasn’t quite decided that shelter life is for him, he’s been showing us exactly what kind of home he needs.

Dash is a very timid, independent boy who enjoys having his own space. He isn’t the cat who’s going to demand that you entertain him all day or follow you around the house looking for attention. He’d much rather find a cozy spot, settle in, and enjoy the quiet life.

He will tolerate pets and attention, but if we’re being honest, he’d generally prefer you let him come around on his own terms. 📋 And you know what? That’s okay.

Dash doesn’t need someone to change his personality. He needs someone who understands it. ❤️

🐾 DASH’S FILE:
🐱 3-year-old neutered male
🧡 Orange and white
🏡 Independent and very timid
🛏️ Loves cozy spots and peaceful naps
💕 Tolerates gentle pets and attention
🐈 Has lived around other cats and generally minds his own business

Dash may do well in a home with another respectful cat who understands boundaries and won’t insist on being his new best friend. Of course, any introductions would need to be slow and thoughtful.

His ideal home? A quiet, patient environment with someone who understands that trust takes time and affection doesn’t always look the same for every animal.

Dash might not be the cat who curls up in your lap on day one. He might not ever be the cat who follows you from room to room. But he deserves a home where he can feel safe, comfortable, and loved just as he is. 🧡

Not every animal needs to be the life of the party. Some just need someone who appreciates a little quiet company. If you’re the kind of person who understands that Dash might be your guy.

P.S. I’ve been told that encouraging people to adopt a cat who prefers to be left alone is an interesting marketing strategy. I prefer to call it knowing your audience. Not every employee here is interested in excessive social interaction. 📋

PATSY’S ADOPTION FILES: SPARKY 🐱📋

Well, well, well… if it isn’t Smartie’s brother, Sparky! I’ve been told sibling files must be handled separately, so here I am doing all the paperwork myself. Honestly, the humans should be paying me overtime.

Sparky is a 5-month-old neutered male who arrived at the shelter with his sister, Smartie. When he first arrived, he was a shy little guy who needed some time to settle in.

But guess what? He’s been coming out of his shell, and we’re getting to see more of the sweet boy hiding underneath! ❤️

Sparky now enjoys being around people and soaking up attention. He also loves a good play session, because apparently being four months old means having an endless supply of energy. But once playtime is over? This boy knows how to clock out. 💤

His ideal schedule seems to be:
🎾 Play hard.
🥰 Accept attention from the humans.
🛏️ Find the warmest, coziest spot available.
💤 Recharge for the next shift.
Honestly, I respect his work-life balance. Perhaps I should take notes.

ADOPTED

Next up in my very important adoption files: Smartie! And yes, I can confirm that the name is fitting. Although, I have yet to determine if she’s smart enough to realize she should be getting herself adopted.

Smartie is a 5-month-old spayed female grey tabby who arrived at the shelter with her brother, Sparky.

When Smartie first arrived, she was a little reserved and preferred to keep to herself. I respect that. Sometimes you need time to assess your surroundings before deciding which humans are worth your attention. But after just a couple of days, her sweet and playful personality started to shine through! 💕

Since then, Smartie has really come out of her shell and is enjoying spending time with her human friends and getting the attention she deserves.

Apparently, all it takes is a little time, patience, and a chance to feel comfortable. Who knew? Well, I did. I’m practically a professional. 📋👑

Smartie has already shown us what a lovely little kitten she can be, and now she’s ready for her next chapter. If you have room in your heart and home for this sweet girl, come meet her! She might just be the smartie choice. 😉

And Sparky, if you’re reading this, your file is next. I have a reputation to maintain.

PATSY’S ADOPTION FILES: Vladdy 🐰📱

Okay, everyone. It’s Patsy again. The humans have apparently left their phone unattended near me AGAIN. Honestly, at this point, I’m starting to think they want me to run this place.

Anyway, while conducting some very important snooping, I came across a certain kitten’s file.

His name is Vladdy. And I have QUESTIONS.

First of all, this gentleman is apparently only 16 weeks old.

Sixteen. Weeks. I beg your pardon?

Because when I look at his face, I see a distinguished older gentleman who probably has strong opinions about the economy and remembers when hay was cheaper. But no. He is, in fact, just a BABY.

Vladdy came to the shelter with his sibling, Bo, who has already found a forever home❤️. Vladdy had a bit of an extended stay with us while the humans waited for him to be big and strong enough for his neuter surgery, as he was cryptorchid.

And during his stay? Well, apparently, he’s been busy growing into quite the little character.

When he first arrived, Vladdy was a shy boy. But with time, his confidence has blossomed, and now he’s showing everyone his sweet, playful, outgoing personality.

He enjoys being around other kittens and cats, loves to play, and has become a wonderful little guy.

And then there’s his face. His sweet little face. His tiny underbite. His whole distinguished gentleman situation. Honestly, I respect it.

🐾 VLADDY’S ADOPTION FILE:
🐱 Age: 16 weeks (allegedly 76 years old based on facial expression)
💕 Personality: Sweet, playful and outgoing
🐈 Roommate preferences: Enjoys the company of other cats and kittens
🎩 Appearance: Retired professor trapped in a kitten’s body
🏡 Current status: Still looking for his forever home

The boy has charm. He has personality. He has a face that deserves its own portrait in a fancy gold frame.

I would like to formally recommend that someone come meet this tiny old man immediately. He may look like he’s about to tell you to get off his lawn, but I assure you, he’s just a 16-week-old kitten who deserves a family of his own. ❤️ Please consider adopting Vladdy. He’s ready for his next chapter, and I have other files to investigate.

Sincerely,
- Patsy 🐰

A THANKSGIVING MESSAGE FROM THE ACTING DIRECTOR OF ADOPTIONS 🦃🐰

The humans have informed me that it is Thanksgiving weekend, which apparently means we are supposed to reflect on what we’re thankful for.

As Acting Director of Adoptions, I have prepared a formal statement. 📋

This Thanksgiving, we’re thankful for the people who open their homes to animals in need, the ones who donate supplies, share our posts, stop by to support us, and remind our animals that they’re loved while they wait for their forever families. ❤️

We’re thankful for our staff, who work hard every day to care for the animals who come through our doors, and for a community that continues to show up for them.

And, of course, we’re thankful for every animal who has found their way home. Those are the success stories that make all the hard days worth it. 🏡🐾

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have several adoption files to review and a few dogs who still need homes.

Apparently, being thankful doesn’t mean I get the weekend off. Management is exhausting.

Wishing everyone a safe, happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter! 🧡

P.S. If you’re feeling thankful for your pets this weekend, give them an extra treat from me. Unless you’re a dog. Then please stop trying to eat things you found on the floor. I’m looking at you, Harley. 🐶📋

PATSY’S ADOPTION FILES: CINNI 🐰📱

Hello again. It’s Patsy. I know, I know. I just found the phone but listen, someone has to start getting these dogs out of here.

Today’s file is about Cinni, a one-year-old Plott Hound mix who is apparently very sweet, very smart, and currently under investigation for excessive enthusiasm.

According to the humans, this boy LOVES people. How much? you ask.

Well, he loves them so much that he keeps trying to jump up and greet them face-to-face.

I have informed him that this is generally frowned upon in professional settings.

He is working on it.

The good news is that Cinni is a quick learner! He’s been doing well with training sessions and catches on fairly quickly. Unlike, SOME members of management, he appears willing to learn new things. I won’t name names. 🐰📋

Now, Cinni hasn’t officially met any other dogs yet, so the humans are still figuring that out. He’s seen them through the fence, though, and apparently gets a little vocal when they get to go out and he doesn’t.

Honestly, relatable. I also have opinions about being kept behind a fence.

🐾 CINNI’S FILE:
🐶 One-year-old neutered male
🧠 Smart cookie who catches on quickly
❤️ Sweet, outgoing and LOVES people
📚 Working on his manners
🏡 Looking for a family to help him keep learning and growing

My professional assessment?

Cinni sounds like a lovely boy who just needs someone willing to help him channel all that excitement into something other than launching himself at people.

If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate companion with plenty of personality, Cinni might be your guy. Please come meet him. I have several more files to review, and frankly, these adoption numbers are not going to improve themselves.

P.S. Cinni, if you’re reading this, four paws on the floor. We have discussed this…

HELLO. IS THIS THING ON? 🐰📱

Hi, It’s Patsy.

Apparently a staff member left their phone in my pen by accident.

Obviously, I picked it up. Obviously, I snooped. And obviously, I found the shelter’s page.

I have some questions.

I have been here for a little while now.

I am friendly.
I am cute.
I am very good at being a bunny.
I enjoy being outside and exploring.

And yet… Nobody has adopted me.

So I decided to look into the situation myself. And do you know what I discovered?

The dogs are having the same problem.

Some of these dogs have been here for a while too, and apparently nobody has figured out that they are extremely good dogs who would very much like to have homes.

Frankly, I’m starting to think the humans need some assistance.

So, while I have this phone, I have decided to take over the adoption department.

My priorities are:
🐰 FIRST: Get myself adopted.
🐶 SECOND: Get the dogs adopted.
📱 THIRD: Probably post things on Facebook that the humans weren’t planning on posting.
🥕 FOURTH: Find out who keeps taking the good snacks.

I will be reviewing the adoption files shortly. I may also be posting some of the dogs who have been waiting around here with me. I may also sprinkle in a few cats, who knows yet.

You’re welcome.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a new best friend, I would strongly suggest starting with me.

I’m Patsy. I’m adorable. I’ve been waiting. And apparently, I now have access to the Facebook account.

The humans probably shouldn’t have left their phone in my pen.
