I was in Sault Ste. Marie for an uplifting conference by Turtle Concepts! It was a great visit... met some wonderful people, was completely inspired, and even got to spend some time in the woods :)

Preventing ma*****na sales does not protect children.

Child sexual abuse continues to be one of the most harmful childhood experiences.

34% of children experience sexual abuse by the time they are 18.

Here is what we KNOW about how to keep children safe:

1. Screen adults who work with children

2. Have a code of conduct that tells adults how to interact safely with children.

3. Monitor behaviour to ensure adults are behaving appropriately

4. Eliminate one on one situations and isolated spaces where abuse can occur.

5. Have a response plan in place so that you know what to do and who to call if you suspect abuse.

6. Train adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly. Trained adults will implement and enforce these prevention steps.

These are the steps to keep kids safe.

None of these steps are accomplished by preventing ma*****na sales.

Please don't use child safety as a justification to pursue a political priority.

Children need adults who prioritize their safety.

The only link between child sexual abuse and ma*****na is that children who experience sexual abuse are more likely than non-abused children to have drug problems in adulthood.

So if you actually care about ma*****na being over-used... then start protecting children with the steps outlined above.

In The Hunger Games, when Peeta's sense of reality has been warped, his friends help him out by giving him feedback on his thoughts and beliefs.

"Real or not real?" he asks to confirm whether his beliefs have been corrupted or are intact.

With so much A1 content flooding the airwaves, it is hard to know if what we are looking at is 'real or not real.'

This is real. Today I crossed the 700 people-trained milestone.

Over the past 15 years I have advocated, promoted, and facilitated child sexual abuse prevention training for over 700 adults.

We're told that the average adult has a protective influence on 10 children.

That means over 7000 children are more likely to be protected from sexual abuse.

It has been a slow journey to get here. But I can tell you that I sleep real good at night knowing that I am doing everything I can to prevent child sexual abuse.

Thank you to the 700 adults who have courageously stepped into this critical and powerful conversation.

Each one of you has helped me to keep advocating, keep promoting, and keep facilitating :)
