The fire index in our area is currently HIGH. Under a high fire hazard rating, the risk of wildfire increases, and extreme caution should be used during any activity on forested land. This includes operating ATVs, heavy equipment, or any machinery that could spark a fire. All Permits to Burn are cancelled while this HIGH rating remains in effect.

Today, the kindergarten class of Cape St. Francis Elementary had a chance to explore the many parts of our community that help keep our town running every day. From sitting in the council chambers, to visiting the Pouch Cove Public Library, learning about fire safety with Pouch Cove Fire Department, and checking out the loader from our Public Works Department.

A big thank you to Acting Mayor Kate Sullivan, our town staff, the members of PCVFD, and Pam from the Library for making this possible.

Inspiring the next generation starts with moments like these, and we’re proud to show them what community is all about! 📚🚒🚜

Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we pause to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of firefighters around the world.
These are the people who run toward danger when others are told to flee—who face the unknown with strength, skill, and determination. Whether responding to fires, rescues, disasters, or emergencies, they put their lives on the line to protect our communities every single day.
We also remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Their bravery and dedication will never be forgotten.
To all firefighters—career and volunteer—thank you for your service, your resilience, and your humanity. Your work does not go unnoticed, and your impact reaches far beyond what words can express.
