More from collecting buckets last night with the kids. Collecting from the barrels this morning then working in the sugar shack to make syrup. Our boils are much shorter this year since we got our RO machine.

Most of our trees are on tubing but the buckets require you to visit the trees often to collect, and it's also interesting to see how much sap each tree gives on a given day or throughout the season. Some today were pretty much overflowing, while some were almost empty. Which side of the tree was tapped and if it's shady or sunny will affect sap flow as well. Sometimes they flow better at the start of the season while others do better nearthe end. You could also test the sugar content of individual trees this way.

Later night collecting, but we had to collect or they'd probably overflow overnight.

Also, the woodcock was calling tonight! Such a cool sounding bird. They do a cool dance too, but I just hear them.

The weather might not be pretty but we're making maple syrup!

First syrup of the season came off the evaporator at 7:40. Pretty late start, but still made it before April came.
