qathet Regional District (qRD) is a local government authority in British Columbia, and includes five electoral areas and one municipality (City of Powell River) in the traditional territory of the Tla’amin, shíshálh, Homalco, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations. Our services include, but are not limited to, land use planning, emergency preparedness, solid waste management, regional parks, and fire

protection. qRD’s jurisdiction covers approximately 5,000 square kilometres of land including Texada, Savary, and Lasqueti islands, north to Toba Inlet and south to Saltery Bay. The population of approximately 20,000 residents live in the City of Powell River, Electoral Areas A, B, C, D and E, and on First Nations’ lands.

TEXADA ISLAND AIRPORT/FACILITIES CARETAKER POSITION
(Temporary Part-Time)

The qathet Regional District is seeking a temporary part-time caretaker to be responsible for the duties associated with the operation of the Texada Island Airport as well as the maintenance and scheduling for other regional district recreation properties/facilities, water systems and the cemetery duties on Texada Island. The position fills a temporary six-month medical leave.

Further details of the position responsibilities, duties, qualification and work schedule are provided in the Texada Island Airport/Facilities Caretaker job description.

The 2026 wage rate for the Texada Island Airport/Facilities Caretaker is $33.47 per hour. The position is subject to CUPE Local 798 Collective Agreement.

The Transfer Station will be closed for scheduled maintenance on June 16–18.

🗑️ During this time, only bagged household garbage will be accepted on site ($5.00 per bag).
🚫 No other materials will be accepted.
➡️ Please follow on-site signage for the bagged garbage drop-off location.

♻️ The Recycling Depot will remain open and operate as usual.

The qathet Regional District is seeking two dynamic individuals to join our team at the Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) Scale House.

Temporary, Part-Time Scale House Attendant – beginning in June 2026, and
continuing for approximately 3 months, candidates must be available to work 18.5 hours per week with the following schedule: 8:00am-5:00pm Thursdays, 8:00am-1:00pm Fridays, and 8:00am-1:30pm Saturdays.

Casual Scale House Attendant – beginning in June 2026, candidates must be available on short notice to cover unexpected absences as well as for pre-scheduled shifts. Hours of work vary seasonally and fluctuate from week to week.

Reporting to the Waste Diversion Supervisor, Scale House Attendants are responsible for delivering Scale House services and engage in cross training on local waste diversion practices, facility upkeep, emergency procedures, and health and safety.

To be successful within this position, candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, teamwork, attention to detail, mathematical accuracy, and proficiency handling financial transactions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
*Identifying incoming materials and directing drivers to appropriate unloading areas.
*Weighing and recording incoming and outgoing materials using scale software and equipment.
*Reconciling financial transactions and balancing material reports.
*Responding to inquiries about waste disposal processes, site procedures, and programs.
*Providing general administrative and clerical support to the Waste Diversion Supervisor and Manager of Environmental Services.

The wage for this position is $33.56 per hour. Hours of work will be scheduled between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Saturday, to support facility operations.
