qathet Regional District (qRD) is a local government authority in British Columbia, and includes five electoral areas and one municipality (City of Powell River) in the traditional territory of the Tla’amin, shíshálh, Homalco, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations. Our services include, but are not limited to, land use planning, emergency preparedness, solid waste management, regional parks, and fire

protection. qRD’s jurisdiction covers approximately 5,000 square kilometres of land including Texada, Savary, and Lasqueti islands, north to Toba Inlet and south to Saltery Bay. The population of approximately 20,000 residents live in the City of Powell River, Electoral Areas A, B, C, D and E, and on First Nations’ lands.

Every Friday and third Saturday of the month, the Reuse Shed will be open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, offering free salvaged tools, construction materials, furniture, and more!

Five Trustees will be elected on October 17th to serve a four-year term from 2026-2030. The nomination period takes place September 1st - September 11th.

Interested in running for school Trustee?

qathet School District is hosting a one-hour information session for prospective candidates at the School Board Office (4351 Ontario Ave) on September 2nd at 4pm.

Come out to learn about the overview of the role of a school Trustee, time commitments and responsibilities, board governance, and the election process.

Prospective candidates will also have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about serving the qathet community through public education.

Anyone who is considering running or simply interested in learning more about the role of a Trustee is encouraged to attend.
