This logo didn’t come from a single idea, but from ongoing conversations with students, staff, families, and community members.

During the process, two themes emerged again and again: connection to place and history.

Surrounded by the waters of the Salish Sea, the whale emerged as the strongest and most widely embraced symbol. Whales are commonly seen in the waters around Texada Island, reflecting everyday life in the community.

The choice also carries forward an important piece of the school’s history, honouring the original orca logo that served the school community for many years and became a cherished part of Texada Elementary’s identity. As far as records show, the logo dates back to at least the 1980s! This refresh provided an opportunity to celebrate the school’s legacy while creating a beautiful design that will serve the school well into the future.

If you look closely within the whale tail, you may notice the face of an eagle. With eagles nesting just behind the school, they are a familiar and powerful presence, one that students and families felt was important to be reflected.

The green and light blue were chosen to reflect the natural beauty that surrounds and sustains the Texada community. From the island's lush forests to the ocean that connects, nourishes and shapes daily life, these landscapes are more than a backdrop, they are part of the community's identity, influencing routines, stories, and even students' dreams!

Texada Elementary’s new visual identity is a reflection of place, shared stories, and the voices that helped shape it.

A special thank you to Tla’amin artist Kobe Galligos for bringing this vision to life through his beautiful artwork, and to local graphic designer Rachelle Harvey for thoughtfully integrating it with the typography.

Rockin’ the Creek is an annual event that brings together families and community members from Kelly Creek Community School for an afternoon of tunes and a celebration of music education!

It showcases all that students in Grades K-7 have learned throughout the year, featuring performances by the school’s rock band, concert band, primary choir, and intermediate choir.

None of this would be possible without the dedication, passion, and leadership of music teacher Mr. Davis Steele! A huge thank you to him for his ongoing support of students throughout the year and for inspiring them to explore and develop their musical talents.

Great job to all the performers and thank you to everyone who came out today!

Congratulations to Grade 12 Brooks Secondary student Finn Gow-Hignell for earning silver at the National Culinary Arts Championships in Toronto after winning gold at Provincials!

The competition tested participants through a series of challenges, including a recipe conversion test, menu recall, completion of a knife skills exam, butchery exam, and the preparation of a three-course menu. Competitors were judged by professional chefs from across Canada in 5 categories, including safety and sanitation, organization and product utilization, preparation and technical skill, presentation, taste and required menu components.

As part of his 3 course menu, Finn prepped tomato and cucumber gazpacho with a flatbread, Chicken Chasseur with a mushroom and shallot veal stock reduction, Vichy carrots, butternut squash puree, pomme anna, tomato concasee and to finish, an apple tarte tatin from scratch. He produced four identical plates of each course for judging.

Chef and Culinary Arts Teacher Connor Knickerbocker shared:

“The Skills Canada cooking competition is very challenging, as it's designed to be. Just to get there, competitors need to win a regional and provincial competition. Nerves are high, the competition area is public, and there are guest 20 judges from across the nation watching. Finn had a few hiccups which is understandable, but he rallied and finished strong. This is impressive because it’s common to mentally spiral and make more and more mistakes once a few are made. I'm so proud of him for his dedication to preparation, his composure throughout the whole process, and his healthy attitude towards competition in general.”

On behalf of qathet School District, we are so proud of Finn on this outstanding achievement and for representing Brooks Secondary on the national stage!

The District Track and Field Meet was an absolute blast last Friday! The day was full of impressive performances, personal bests, and even a few broken records. Congratulations to all the Grades 3-7 students who participated and gave it their all whether in running, shot put, high jump, long jump, ball throw, or relays. And as always, a big thank you to all the teachers and staff who worked incredibly hard to make the day a success, as well as the families, friends, and community members who came out to show their support!
