Come meet our community’s incredible team of Early Years experts, facilitators and supports and make connections with other families, while your young children (0-5 years) explore the ORCA BUS, StrongStart GO, and play. There will also be games, giveaways, and healthy snacks!

Looking for a welcoming place for your little one to learn, play, and connect? Our StrongStart centres at Edgehill, Henderson, and Westview Elementary are all officially up and running!

We’re excited to introduce you to the new StrongStart centre at Edgehill Elementary and its wonderful facilitator, Janet Street. Swipe through to learn a little about Janet and take a peek inside the classroom to see what a day at StrongStart can look like!

StrongStart at Edgehill runs Monday-Friday from 8:45am-11:45am. A friendly reminder that registration is required before attending. Simply complete a short form and email a copy of your child’s birth certificate, or bring it on your phone for a facilitator to verify.

National Coming Out Day is observed annually on October 11th. First celebrated in 1988, this day is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, honour the courage it can take to share one’s identity, and foster a culture of authenticity, acceptance, and belonging.

Coming out is a deeply personal journey, and every experience is different. For some, sharing their gender identity or sexual orientation can be an important and affirming milestone. For others, it may take time to feel safe and ready. Everyone deserves the freedom to navigate their journey in their own way, on their own terms.

When a student chooses to share their identity with you, a caring and supportive response can make a meaningful difference.

Here are a few ways to show your support:

- Thank them for sharing and trusting you.
- Listen and give them space to share at their own pace.
- Respect their privacy and don’t share their information without permission.
- Offer support and connect them with trusted adults and school resources, including SOGI supports, when appropriate.

Every student deserves to feel seen, valued, and accepted for who they are. At qathet School District, we are committed to creating school communities where everyone feels safe to be themselves and knows they belong.

Every October 10th, World Mental Health Day, a global initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO), gives us a chance to pause, check in with one another, and talk openly about mental health. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and highlight the importance of accessible mental health care.

This year’s theme, “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change,” encourages us to listen to those with lived experience of mental health challenges and recognize the value of their voices. For our students, families, schools, and community members, creating change can start with something as simple as making space for honest conversations and listening with care. By learning from lived experiences, we can better understand people's needs and build more supportive, inclusive environments.

Every year, qathet School District publishes an Enhancing Student Learning Report (ESLR), an annual report required by the B.C. Ministry of Education and Child Care. The report gives families and our community a look at how students are doing, highlights the district’s progress, and identifies areas for continued growth.

The ESLR looks at areas such as student learning, well-being, graduation rates, and equity across the district. It also shares the district’s priorities and goals, and the steps being taken to support the success and well-being of every student.

This October, Brooks celebrates its 100th anniversary!

While much has changed over the decades, the heart of Brooks has always been its people. To celebrate this milestone, we invited alumni, former and current staff, students, families, and community members to share their memories and stories.

We received phone calls, emails, drop-ins at the School Board Office, and some people even opened their doors and invited us in to sit down, chat, and dig through treasured photos and memorabilia together. Each conversation helped us collect stories, memories, and reflections that offer a glimpse into the friendships, milestones, and moments that have shaped Brooks and made it such a lasting part of our community. We are deeply grateful to everyone who reached out and contributed.
