Local Health Care Access in qathet and Powell River
A Presentation by Ms. Christien Kaaij,
Strategic Lead of the qathet Division of Family Practice
Sponsored by Westview Ratepayers Society at the Cranberry Seniors Centre.
January 21, 2026 7:00-9pm
Join us, January 21, for a community talk on the new qathet
Primary Care Access Report, based on feedback from more
than 1,400 residents and other local data. The report
looks at how people in qathet find information about care,
get appointments, feel supported by their providers, and
what barriers still stand in the way? There are, however, ongoing
challenges with timely appointments and access for
young adults, Indigenous residents, and people
with lower incomes

Important Community Meeting: Stop the proposed export of our local energy to the US for 30 years!

You are invited to a public meeting to learn why the City, the region, the Tla’amin Nation, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Westview, Townsite, and Wildwood Ratepayers are opposed to the proposed export of power from our local dams by PREI for the next 30 years

Learn what you can do to keep the benefits of our local water generation of power in our community.

There is currently a threat that all the power from local dams will be locked into a 30-year export permit to the US for private profit. Local water should create local power that benefits our community. We need to act now to stop this!

Sponsored by Westview, Townsite, and Wildwood Ratepayers

Monday, October 6, 7 pm

Cedar Room, Rec Complex

Regards,

Rick Craig

Energy Democracy for BC https://ed4bc.org/ is inviting us to send in letters by Sept. 25 to the Canada Energy Regulator, which has to decide whether or not to grant a permit for PREI (Powell River Energy Inc. owned by a mega-corporation, Brookfield) to export the electricity generated locally to the US for the next 30 years.

The easiest way to do that would likely be to use the template on this site: https://keepourpowerlocal.ca/ .

Brookfield wants to export 100% of our local hydro power to the U.S. until 2055. Families here bear the costs, while the U.S. gets the benefits. Add Your Voice!
