An important conversation. A shared sense of possibility. An exciting step toward the future of Indigenous justice. 🦅
On October 1, PGUAJS joined an initial planning discussion to explore an Indigenous Court serving Prince Rupert and surrounding communities.
We were pleased to connect with Sandra Staats of the BC First Nations Justice Council’s Prince Rupert Indigenous Justice Centre, Tricia Pantel of the Law Foundation of BC, and Crown counsel participants Ashley Crate and Kyle Schille, alongside our Executive Director, Jason Kelly.
Together, we explored how community leadership, Elders’ guidance, legal experience, and organizational support could help move this work forward.
At the heart of the conversation was a shared priority: people should feel included and supported within the justice system. Local Nations and communities must shape the path ahead.
PGUAJS is excited to share experience from Prince George and explore serving as an interim host while the initiative develops its own local capacity and structure.
This is an early planning milestone. There is meaningful engagement ahead—and we look forward to listening, learning, and building relationships that can support accountability, healing, and belonging.
Building bridges begins with showing up, listening carefully, and working together. We’re proud to be part of this beginning.
