Literature from the 3rd Ave Collective Zine Library will be part of the IWW table at the Labour Day celebrations on Monday. It's taking place at Canada Games Plaza (in front of the Library).

Things are kicking off with a march at 10, and by noon they'll have free hotdogs and some bands playing.

We'll have lit to take, lit to borrow, and the opportunity to learn more about the IWW's radical, direct-action focused solidarity unionism, and how it can help you and others!

Come down and say hi!

After a bit of a break, we're back doing our biweekly highlights of new/interesting zines!

This week, we've got trifold pamphlets from FightC PG . These are full of info about why to fight against the Site C Dam, and what you can do to get involved. Stop by and pick one up, pass it around, talk to your friends, neighbours and coworkers. It is incredibly important to support the Nations standing up for themselves and not let capitalist interests destroy communities for their own ends. Every little bit helps. Get involved, make your voice heard!

Ending on a lighter note, thanks to who ever left us a new friend!

This is a busy few days, with a couple of significant dates to highlight, with zines to match.

First off, happy May Day, or International Worker's Day! To learn more about this day and it's significance, we have "May Day and Anarchism: Remembrance and Resistance from Haymarket to Now" edited by Anna Key. "This pamphlet shows the history of Mayday, and the differing ways in which Anarchists have responded to its call. It includes pieces on: The Haymarket affair and its aftermath; the idea of Mayday in the 1890s; Responses and appeals from America, Italy, Spain..; Mayday and Latin American Anarchism; Reclaiming Mayday in recent times."

Secondly, May 5th is the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx's birthday. To celebrate this, we want to highlight a zine that presents an alternative economic vision influenced by Marx's criticism of capitalism and analysis of class dynamics. "The economics of freedom" published by SolFed presents some ideas about what a more equal economic future could look like. "Anarcho-syndicalism is about direct democracy- democracy from the bottom up - no party politicians, corporate managers or union leaders...it is rather a cop-out to simply say "we'll sort that out later" and then, fall back on abstract principles or concepts. So, we thought it would be useful to develop a detailed model (but not a straightjacket) of how it could work."

The spring thaw has brought youthful adventurer, Young Jim Jr. out west spreading with him tales of his travels through life. Two new zines are on the bookshelf today full of accounts of Young Jim's fun and lighthearted encounters. It's a little different than our usual offerings, but it's fun to switch things up and we'd love to see more diversity on the bookshelf. Be sure to follow Junior Jim Jr. on facebook and on Instagram.

An anarcho-bike collective made a daring, daylight attack on capitalism, dropping off a zine criticizing the global capitalist economic structure.

"Teachers in Oklahoma left their classrooms to flood the state Capitol in protest, demanding better salaries and more funding from lawmakers. Oklahoma is among the bottom three states for teacher salaries, where educators often work about 10 years before reaching the $40,000 salary mark."

Teachers from Kentucky are also walking out today, following in the footsteps of teachers from West Virginia, all of whom are taking "unlawful" job action, also going counter to the wishes of the union brass.

Solidarity with each other, no matter what the folks at the top tell you, gets the job done.

This time around we're highlighting two of our zines about the relationship between anarchism and feminism.

The first zine is called: "An Introduction to Anarcha-Feminism", by Monika Penner. It's an overview of those ideas, touching on a broad range of subjects, with suggested resources for further reading and self-education as well if the zine strikes a chord with you. Great read, check it out!

The second zine is "said the pot to the kettle: feminist theory for anarchist men". Just because someone declares or believes themselves to be supporters of radical ideas, it doesn't mean that their own socialization from our patriarchal and white supremacist society goes away, or has even been thoroughly interrogated and addressed. This zine expands on that idea, and gives good ideas about how to start to really confront internalized misogyny and patriarchal behaviors and privileges. Essential reading for men in radical spaces.
