North Coast Regional District
PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN AS FOLLOWS:
ADVANCE ELECTOR REGISTRATION
The close of advance registration for the North Coast Regional District Local Government Elections is at August 25, 2026 at 4:00 P.M.
The North Coast Regional District makes use of the Provincial Voters List prepared under the Elections Act which includes all provincially registered resident electors who are deemed eligible to vote. Advance registration is available for those who may not be included in the Provincial Voters List.
Are you eligible to vote in the elections for the positions of:
• Director Electoral Area A – 1 person to be elected
• Director Electoral Area C – 1 person to be elected
• Director Electoral Area D – 1 person to be elected
• Director Electoral Area E – 1 person to be elected
Are you eligible to vote at the North Coast Regional District assent voting in Oona River? Is your name on the current list of electors?
If you are not sure you can find out by emailing, calling, or visiting the North Coast Regional District Office at [email protected], 250-624-2002 ext. 2, and 205 - 815 1st Avenue West, Prince Rupert BC, V8J 1B3. The office is open from 8:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. Monday to Friday (excluding holidays).
Advance elector registrations will be accepted at the North Coast Regional District office until August 25, 2026 at 4:00 P.M. Advance elector registrations will not be accepted after the closing date, but registrations will be accepted on voting days.
ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS
RESIDENT ELECTORS:
• 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
• a Canadian citizen; and
• a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
• a resident of the North Coast Regional District Electoral Areas of A, C, D, and E; and
• not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS:
• 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
• a Canadian citizen; and
• a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
• a registered owner of real property in the North Coast Regional District Electoral Areas of A, C, D, and E for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
• the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
• not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
• not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law; and
• if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.
LIST OF REGISTERED ELECTORS
Beginning August 31, 2026, until the close of general voting for the election on October 17, 2026, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at the North Coast Regional District office in , 205 - 815 1st Avenue West, Prince Rupert BC, V8J 1B3 during regular office hours, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.
Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list, make copies, or use the information included in the list except for the purposes of Part 3 - Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.
REQUEST TO OMIT OR OBSCURE
An elector may request that their address or other personal information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors. The elector must contact the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Chief Election Officer to make this request.
OBJECTION TO REGISTRATION OF AN ELECTOR
An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act until 4:00 pm on September 11, 2026. An objection must be in writing and an objection may only be made by a person entitled to be registered as an elector of the North Coast Regional District Electoral Areas A, C, D, and E and only on the basis that a person whose name appears on the list of electors has died or is not qualified to register as an elector of the North Coast Regional District Electoral Areas A, C, D, and E.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE
A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:
• Canadian citizen;
• 18 years of age or older on general voting day, (October 17, 2026);
• resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months, (March 10, 2026) immediately before the day nomination papers are filed, September 11, 2026; and
• not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
CAMPAIGN PERIOD EXPENSE LIMITS
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 general local election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:
• Director Electoral Area A – $6,161.89
• Director Electoral Area C – $6,161.89
• Director Electoral Area D – $6,161.89
• Director Electoral Area E – $6,161.89
