Tomorrow, October 17th the intersection of 11th and Conrad will have a full road closure to enable continued preparatory work for paving in the area. Please plan for an alternate route for the full day tomorrow. Traffic Control Personnel will be on site for the duration of the closure, and emergency vehicles will be permitted through the work zone as required.

A reminder to residents that General Voting Day for the municipal election is tomorrow, October 17th from 8 am - 8 pm in the Russell Gamble Gymnasium at 1000 McBride Street (Civic Centre). For anyone requiring our mobile polling option (where election staff come to you to assist you in voting if you have medical or physical reasons that you cannot attend the voting place), requests must be received by 5 pm today.

Additional tips for voting day are below:

👉 Did you get a voter card in the mail this week? That's not from us! It's for the Provincial election on October 24th. No need to bring it tomorrow!
👉 You don't need the voter card but your ID may be requested - please see the formal notice linked below for the types of ID accepted
👉 Free transit services are available tomorrow to help get folks to the polls
👉 No cell phones or photography are permitted in the voting place

There will be a full road closure today on 3rd Avenue West between 1st and 2nd Streets to enable unplanned repairs to water infrastructure in the area, with an estimated reopening by the end of the day. Please follow all posted detour signage and traffic controls.

Time to secure your outdoor belongings! There's been a wind-warning issued for the North Coast that currently projects winds between 80 - 110 km an hour this evening.

Things to consider securing include garbage cans, patio/outdoor furniture and bbqs, soft outdoor shelters, trampolines and other outdoor sporting equipment.

Note that wind events also increase the risk of downed trees and power outages. Surge protectors will help protect your appliances and it's never a bad idea to have a head lamp, flashlight, or candles on hand just in case.

A reminder - there is a mobile voting option for those who need it - and the deadline to request it is 5 pm today!

If you or someone you know for medical reasons or because of physical limitations cannot leave their residence on general voting day, we can come to you! A mobile voting place operated by the City of Prince Rupert voting staff attend the residence of electors who need this service to allow that person to vote. Requests to have a mobile voting station attend a residence on general voting day (October 17th) must be received by the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer or designate, before 5:00 pm on October 15th, 2026 (today!).

For electors who, for medical reasons or because of physical limitations, cannot leave their residence on general voting day, the City of Prince Rupert voting staff will attend their residence to allow that elector an opportunity to vote. At last night's Council meeting, there were candles lit in honour of month to honour those grieving a loss. October 15th, specifically, is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, and on that day there will be a Wave of Light event in remembrance for those grieving a loss. The community is invited to light a candle at 7 pm tomorrow to participate.

A section of the sidewalk in the 800 block of 1st Ave West will be closed today to enable planned repair work. Note this will have no impact to the airport ferry bus pick up/drop off area next door, and repairs should be completed over the next two weeks.

Last chance for advanced voting today (Wednesday, October 14th) at the Raven Lounge of the Prince Rupert Recreation Complex between 8 am - 8 pm!

A heads up that today is the first of two opportunities for advanced voting (in the municipal election), in addition to General Local Election Voting Day of October 17th.

Head down to the Raven Lounge of the Civic Centre between 8 am and 8 pm on Wednesday, October 7th (today) OR Wednesday, October 14th if you'd like to vote early.

𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗗 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘀!

Electors may be asked to produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity. For additional information on what type of ID is accepted, open the full in-app notice.

TYPES OF DOCUMENTS THAT WILL BE ACCEPTED AS IDENTIFICATION

a) a Driver’s Licence;
b) an Identification Card such as a photo BC services card or a non-photo BC services card;
c) an Owner’s Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence issued by ICBC;
d) a BC CareCard;
e) An Indian Status Card, Citizenship or membership card issued by a First Nation or the Metis Nation of BC;
f) a Social Insurance Number card;
g) a Citizenship Card;
h) a real property tax notice;
i) a credit card or debit card; or
j) a utility bill, (such as electricity, natural gas, water, telephone or cable services).

The above listed identification documents MUST be accepted by election officials. An election official may also accept other forms of documents that provide evidence satisfactory to the election official (e.g., a valid, current passport).

Did you know? Buses to the polls on October 17th (General Voting Day in the local election) will be FREE for all riders. Polls are open from 8 am - 8 pm.
