Public Notice is given to the electors of the City of Prince Rupert that nominations for the offices of:

Mayor – One (1) to be elected
Councillor – Six (6) to be elected
School Board Trustee – Six (6) to be elected for Trustee Election Area 1 SD52
will be received by the Chief Election Officer or a designated person, from 9:00 a.m. September 1st, 2026 to 4:00 p.m. September 11th, 2026:

Interested persons can obtain information on the requirements and procedures for making nominations, including nomination forms at City Hall from Tuesday August 4th, 2026 during regular office hours (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) until the close of the nomination period Friday, September 11th, 2026. This information can also be obtained electronically by emailing [email protected].

𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government or school trustee if they meet the following criteria:

👉 Canadian citizen;
👉 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 17th, 2026);
👉 resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed
👉 not disqualified under the Local Government Act (Local Government), School Act ( School Trustees) or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 general local election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:

Mayor $ 15,901.37
Councillor $ 7,950.69
School Trustee $ 7,982.11

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 general local elections, the following third party advertising limits apply:

Third Party Advertising Limit: $ 924.28

𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀

Beginning Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, until the close of general voting for the election on Saturday, October 17th, 2026, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at Prince Rupert City Hall, during regular office hours 9:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays. Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list or use the information included in the list, except for the purposes of Part 3 – Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act. An elector may request that their address or other personal information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors. The elector must contact the Chief Election Officer or the designate to make this request.

𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿

An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act until from Tuesday, September 1st until 4:00 pm on Friday, September 11th, 2026. An objection must be in writing and may only be made by a person entitled to be registered as an elector of the City of Prince Rupert and can only be made on the basis that a person whose name appears on the list of electors has died or is not qualified to be registered as an elector of the City of Prince Rupert.

𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Are you eligible to vote in the October elections for Prince Rupert? Is your name on the current list of electors? If you are not sure you can find out by calling Elections BC at 1-800-661-8683.

The City uses the Provincial List of Voters. Advance elector registrations will be accepted at elections.bc.ca/ovr until Tuesday, August 18th, 2026. Otherwise registration can be done on voting day.

👉 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
👉 a Canadian citizen; and
👉 a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
👉 a resident of the City of Prince Rupert; and

If you are not sure, you can find out by calling or visiting the City of Prince Rupert, Administration Office, 424 - 3rd Avenue West, Prince Rupert, B.C. V8J 1L7, 250.627.0939. The office is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday (excluding holidays).

Advance non-resident property owner elector registrations will be accepted at the City of Prince Rupert Administration Office until August 25th, 2026. provided the person meets the following qualifications:

👉 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
👉 a Canadian citizen; and
👉 a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
👉 a registered owner of real property in the City of Prince Rupert for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
👉 the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and,
not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law; and
👉 if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

The City of Prince Rupert Operations Department is inviting resumes from qualified individuals for casual employment in our Public Works Department. Casuals are employed to provide relief for regular employees and for short term extra work. This is a unionized position in accordance with the CUPE Local 105 Collective Agreement and the starting wage for a Labourer is $34.50.

This semi-skilled work will involve a variety of diverse activities within various sectors of Public Works including sanitation, utilities, cemetery, roads and parks. Under general supervision, duties include, but are not limited to, cutting grass, landscaping, gardening, street maintenance, operation of equipment, small machinery, refuse collection, municipal grounds keeping, janitorial, asphalt repairs, concrete finishing, traffic control, litter pick up, slashing and other duties as assigned.

Staff interact with the public and as such applicants must have the ability to deal with residents in a courteous, respectful and professional manner at all times. Applicants must be aware of the physical demands of the assigned tasks and comply with safe work practices. Workers are required to perform strenuous physical work for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.

As the next phase of 11th Avenue East construction proceeds for the BIG Project, starting tomorrow there will be a full road closure of a section of 11th Avenue East between Brett Place and Alexandra Place to enable utility replacement in that area. There may also be temporary single lane access on either side of those two intersections, with access maintained to the side streets. Pedestrian access will be maintained, and local traffic access will be permitted for residences in that area. For those seeking to pass through, Prince Rupert Blvd can be used as an alternate route in the meantime. Please follow all posted traffic signage and controls.

This work will impact the bus route through this area, which is being re-routed via Alfred Street to Prince Rupert Blvd as an alternate route. Handidart services are also available for those who need them.

Also, we know that the community is awaiting an update on the status of the initial section of 11th Avenue East, which is still waiting additional tie in work and paving. The watermain tie-ins along 11th Avenue are being coordinated between the Consulting Engineer and the City's Public Works. We hope to have this resolved as soon as possible, and appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as this work is finalized.

Desert Hills Farms is coming this Thursday, August 20th - and if it's anything like last year, we know there will be lines! (Y'all love these dancing produce people!). We've made this handy map to help you navigate the crowds and our parking lot.

A couple of logistical things:

👉 People coming for produce are requested to please use the entrance closest to 9th Avenue West off of Highway 16 (see map), and exit on Wantage Road (next to the Lester Centre). This will keep traffic moving more efficiently.

👉 There will be four loading zones once you make your way through the line-up in the parking lot (marked on the map). There will also be people on site helping to direct traffic.

👉 General facility users should enter and exit using Wantage Road (next to the Lester Centre) to avoid the crowds.

👉 The bus stop in front of the Civic Centre will be moved in front of Mission Health for the day to alleviate potential bus delays.
