Yesterday I met with premier Eby after his press conference (that I crashed) to discuss a very important issue that is becoming a serious issue for many of our clients. The difficulty of clients accessing help through income assistance because they cannot afford a cell phone is really becoming a real issue. The Premier and I spent almost 15 minutes discussing the changes needed to access income assistance that doesn't penalize people who cannot afford a phone and need help from the ministry. He agreed with me that we have to get past the bureaucracy and look at ways to help those who are in need get the help they need in a speedy manner. We are gonna be setting a meeting with our MLA Tamara Davidson to discuss this issue and pass on the info onto Premier Ebby as he requested for us to keep him in the loop and let's find a solution to this problem.

To all my Nisga'a friends and clients who have been calling my office about getting their new status cards. I have gotten the update from INAC that says they will not process applications for Nisga'a citizens until after January 1st, 2024. This is the date the legislation comes into effect that reinstates tax free sales exemption and the date they can remove the statements on the back of the secure status that says the cards cannot be used for tax exempt purchases. I will be able to assist in completing the applications in December for those who wish to apply for their secure status cards then. Haw'aa
